I'd be happy to write a letter. It's Yockey, you say?

Also: Most Mormon churches take up that name- not necessarilly all of them do. According to a Mormon friend of mine their church had a very obscure name when he lived in Utah.

Now, then, we just need contact information for his folks

Okeedokee- Tex sent me the data on where Xan's folks live, thus I wrote this rough draft of a letter to send them requesting his address in Alaska. Please note any changes that you feel ought to be made. Also, does anyone know Xan's real first name? :?

I have to ask. What is "snail mail"? Is it really something I am not aware of, or is it a typo. Otherwise it sounds good. Espicially that you give them the site to check out.

hahaha.. Darth Rob makes the point i was going to bring up. His parents may not understand the term "snail mail". instead use something like "physical mailing address in Alaska" or something like that... (I'm willing to bet Tex will have some better/more suggestions)

@Rob: "Snail mail" is a physical letter sent via the US Post Office; a hand written envelope, with a stamp (39 cents now), hopefully with a return address. That was the "only" way to send mail until the advent of "e-mail". It's still in use today, and has been in use for thousands of years.

@Tofu: my suggestion; drop the "snail" and change it to "Alaskan"

Alrighty... I have to pick up some stamps at the post office before I can mail it, but I'll make that one change and send it once I have 'em. Would anyone else like to have their contact info listed in the letter?

Did anyone know his real name? I cant seem to recall if he ever mentioned it, at least publicly. And Tofu, if you ever go with your mom to the grocery store.. they might have stamps there. At least, I think they should... thats how things work around where I live. Then you can just pop the letter in your mailbox with the other mail that goes out. :) no complicated trip to the Post Office or anything then ;)

I think you guys have been making a step in the right direction. Even if we get the wrong people that just means we narrow down the list to contact.

Perhaps not deserving of a 'woo' yet but a mild yay is in order.:lol:

I just remembered I had an email address for Xan. I've sent him an email asking for his physical address. We'll see what happens.

So... I stumbled across this while looking for something else... you guys have no idea how hard I laughed.

And laughed. And laughed. Oh, this brought back memories... the good ol' days, before the forums slowed down like they have.

The best part of this whole thread was that you had enough info to contact me all along, and just didn't know it. If you know a missionary's name and where he went (in this case, Alaska), you can send a letter to the mission office there. That address is publicly listed online to anyone who wants it. Address it to me, and the office forwards it to where ever I am at the time. If I recall, Mitth is also LDS; shame on him for not knowing that!

While I'm at it, there is indeed a branch of our church in Vermillion. The organization goes like so: regions encompass vast areas, such as several states or a few countries. Stakes are the next biggest, made up of 10-15 wards or branches. A ward has a typical attendance of 100-300. Branches are smaller, but still enough that they can staff the necessary positions (no one is paid, it's all volunteer, so if you don't have enough volunteers, you don't have a unit of the church). Also, the church's official name is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Listings in the phone book should include the entire title, though I suppose it may be abbreviated sometimes depending on the phone book in question.

There are stake presidents, who oversee a stake. Each missionary is interviewed by his stake president before he leaves; mine would have gladly passed on the mission office address if asked. In wards, there is a bishop (in branches we call them branch presidents; I'm not sure why we don't call the bishops too, since they do the same thing). My father has been the local branch president for five years now; he also would have gladly passed on an address. And he certainly knows what snail mail is.

Man, you guys have no idea how fun it was to read through this. I also appreciate the efforts you all put in to contact me; in particular, because of that I was able to swap letters with Paul for awhile before he passed away. That will always mean something to me.
