Yay! :D

Hmm... Heavy Cruiser, heavy... cruiser... riiiight.

Honestly it's been so long now since I thought about it I can't remember.

The heavy Cruiser shouldn't be too different from the regular Cruiser Analog, it's just been "grown out" bigger. Bigger, Bulkier, um Grand-ier.

*Goes to check another thread for a second.*

Had to look at my Vong Starship Ship list to check on what ships I was using.

( Yuuzhan Vong Slayers Craft )

( Yuuzhan Vong Corvette Analog )

( Yuuzhan Vong Frigate Analog )

( Yuuzhan Vong Light Cruiser Analog )

( Yuuzhan Vong Cruiser Analog )

( Yuuzhan Vong Carrier Analog )

( Yuuzhan Vong Heavy Cruiser Analog )

The Carrier and Heavy Cruiser Analog could both be based off of essentially the same model to speed things up. They both look like larger uglier verions of the Matalok but with tons more of the coral armatures that you see on the cruiser on the Dark Tide I: Onslaught book cover.

http://www.swgalaxy.ru/books/images/eng/onslaught.jpg

On the Carrier these armatures carry the many many skips. On the Heavy Cruiser the armatures have additional plasma weapons, dovin basals, grutchin launchers, and they add armour to the ship. 8O

The Matalok masses as much as an ISD. These things must be getting close to the mass of an Alleigance SSD.

(Eventually the Heavy cruisers "grow up" to become the Grand Cruisers like the one seen at Ithor. The Grand's weren't that common in the war though so I won't be including them.)

Ok, well I figure out my overall problems with textures and now have a working version of the EFC.

So due to bordem and the fact I can;t be bothered at the moment working on the model any more - I'll release them both tomorrow as an early version and in the future I'll attempt to remake them as a better version.

Speaking of which, I've recompiled the textures for the RSD, Vong Cruiser and Balarus with the fixed technique - and am currently thinking of what to do with them . . . get someone to test to see if they're worth while, upload a new texture pack or a new model.

You could send them to me and I'll try them out on the weekend? :D:wink::roll:

  • 2 weeks later...

(Whenever I type one of these long, multi-picure posts that are carefully worded to not tick anyone off, the 'submit' button always yields the results "The page can not be displayed" GAH!!^%$#@ )

Over the course of today I've been looking over and comparing the current Yuuzhan Vong ship models. I've found that they don't really match too well. :( (I wish I knew what great words I'd used to say that before.)

I've drawn up some comparisons using screen captures of the two models and some drawing sketches to more accurately depict what the current model looks like. This is necessary because I have been unable to take a screen capture of the Heavy Cruiser Analog other than the nifty texturing.

http://web.ripnet.com/~jdprosper/NJO%20Ship%20Design.GIF

As you can see the two models are radically different.

(I remember using radically different.)

I'm sorry that I haven't gotten arround to comparing the availible models until recently, I had been fairly busy so it didn't seem important before.

Below are screen shots of some of the ship cards pictures I'm going to be using in the Mod. I still have to look up again who acually modified these pictures into their separate cards.

http://web.ripnet.com/~jdprosper/NJO%20Ship%20Design3%20Cards.GIF

The topmost one is what I've been using for the Frigate and Light Cruiser Analog. The Middle one is the Matalok with Krytos' model next to it. The lowest one is a Heavy Cruiser Analog. (Note the picture of the HC-Analog is missing many of the spines and armatures that are described in the books to be found on ships of it's type. The person who modified the picture was likley working with what they could using the Matalok. )

(This is the part where I said;)

FEAR NOT FOR ALL IS NOT LOST!

I have an idea.

All we need to do is make the two types of ship more similar to each other. For starters the Matalok needs more mass, it had to be 'taller' or fatter. The length and width are fine but the 'height' needs to be bumped up, say by about 60% or more.

http://web.ripnet.com/~jdprosper/NJO%20Ship%20Design2.GIF

The spines and armatures that are on the current Heavy Cruiser are perfect. The texture and shape are fine for them. Since the Heavy is essentially just a larger verion of the Matalok, all that needs to be done is lengthen the fatter Matalok with a few segments and make it a bit wider. After that current spines can be put on it but in a different direction.

Instead of pointing more up and inward they can be rotated to point outward more. Following the curve of the main body.

Sorry Mad, the rock textures are perfect just the shape of the ship isn't really... yeah.

I hope you guys don't totally hate me now.

EDIT: btw Mad, there was something familliar about the bow of your frigate that's been nagging at me all day. I finally figured out what it was.

Rofl.

EDIT2: Oh yeah. I also ment to say I was going to start looking into Masks modeling tutorials and see if I can get hold of some of the programs needed.

Okay so lets recapitulate.

You want the Heavy cruiser to have more spines and the spines to be directed differently. Do I keep the spines who are already on the top?

And i didn't really understand what you meant about the fregate :?

I was just joking arround about the Frigate.

Cut down the number of topside spines. About seven spines would be good using the smaller topside ones. Toss the big central topside one.

Move two to the underside if possible. All of these spines and armatures are stuck onto the outer shell.

:( Really, alot of this is dependant upon getting a larger verion of Krytos's model to build off of.

EDIT: Arg. This still isn't really clear. Give me some time to organise something.

I just woke up. Let me try and find some modeling programs or something... yeah.

You will have to tell me what you thought of it.

Once you have read Mask's tutorials on how to get started with Gmax give me a call via MSN so we can talk about these Vong Cruisers

Finally found some time.

I've been looking all over the place in the downloads section but I haven't been able to find vakundok's bmpconverter anywhere.

Am I looking in the wrong place? Is it part of another program?

EDIT:

*SLAPS Forehead*

Crap! it's part of the model exchange(-er) download. No wonder it seemed like I had seen the program before.

You can go about your business. Move along, move along.

Did the exact same thing when I was looking for the program  For some reason, I just couldn't find the bmp converter. That's one reason why I only do my rebediting on one computer now - because I know I'll be having problems trying to get it all going on another computer

Oh, I might also try my hand at modifying my Matalok to make it look like that drawing of yours D16. The models kind of highly optimised, so I'm not sure how easy that will be :?

I'll try to send you the file somehow Mad. I'll probably be offline for a while. I've been having a hard time lately connecting to this forum, so I doubt I'll be around much 'till something changes.

I'l try through msn or email
