Hello.

 I feel ridiculous coming in here...reading EVERYTHING that's been posted about this subject...and coming out of it without even a hint of how to begin :x . Probably because I'm completely excited about it, but primarily because I'm so completely computer illiterate as far as terms go :? . Who'll be my idiot's guide in this? All I wanna do is get one of the already completed models (.X files) into the game. How?! Everyone seems to be doing it with a fair amount of ease. All except ME :x:!: ! Some detailed instructions if you please. I've already got the .X files in a folder, but they're just sitting there  . I can't even open them! HUH?! I SO look forward to your response! MAN...it scares me to find out how alone I am on this  .

EDIT by Admin: Do you really have to use all caps and emoticons all through here. Please write so people can read your posts.[/img]

I can't get it to unzip, it tells me something about the file being corrupted, like it hasn't downloaded properly or something. I get that every time i try it.

Cause there I (tried to) explain, how this is done :D

-First you also need Resource Hacker. The link in my tutorial is outdated, as Untimely found out, shortly after the release.

A working link should be : http://www.users.on.net/johnson/resourcehacker/

-With Resource H. you open the tactical.dll from your Rebellion folder.

-Now you can see the various datatypes in that file represented in the according folders, like Wave, Bitmap, ... and so on.

-The models are in the 301 folder, so open this one.

-According to the model you want to replace, you choose the old model's number from my tutorial. The MonCal cruiser would be 2010, for example.

-There are always three slightly different models for each ship. They are used to display the ships from different view ranges (far, medium, close).

-Now open the number-folder of the model you want and left-click on the 1033 shown there. Now right-click on it again and select 'replace resource'

-In the new dialog use the 'open file with...' button and select your .x file from the folder, where you extracted it to.

-After doing this, you'll see three more options in this dialog:

Resource Type: this is always the 'folder' your resource is in. So for our models this is ALWAYS 301.

Resource Name: here it's the model's number, so if you wanted to replace the MonCal, it'd be 2010 for close, 2011 for medium and 2012 for the far view.

Last is Resource Language: here you enter the value of, well, the language of the dll. If you have the US-version of Rebellion, it's 1033.

-Now you click on the Replace button and you replaced your first model.

-To really see the model allways in tactical battles you need to replace all three view-ranges (close, medium, far). You can of course replace only one, but it'd awkward, if your model suddenly would change, when you zoom in :)

-Last and most important: Save your tactical.dll, or all the work will be lost ! Resource Hacker does not automatically save the changes like RebEd.

I hope this helps you :D

The link doesn't work ? Could be your browser, I sent it to you via email.

Generally: the files I offer in SWR's download section can also be found on my homepage. http://kickme.to/woodsboro/

Only the Rebellion part is currently translated to english and because some people have asked, there will also be the American flag besides the British flag on the start page :D

Just find the entrance below the Scream mask and click your way through 'game select' and then you can either use the quick selection bar (looks weird in Netscape, I know) above, or click on the Rebellion picture below.

I think mask's excellent tutorial (above) should be placed in the "Sections" area of this site, so this can be easily found. A link to the full tutorial could be put there as well.

Mr. Mask...:D:lol: THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH! It worked like a DREAM and they look fantastic! I can't WAIT for the rest! Quick question...are you be able to create models to reflect any ships on the .rsc cards? If YOU ARE...and feel it would be too much work, I will PAY YOU to create certain ones (about 11 including the rest of the original models).

To: ANYONE USING THEM

I think we should pitch in some $ for what has to be a difficult task for Billy. Nothing extreme if there are enough donators. These models are REALLY nice! Thoughts and advisement?

Uh.. guys.. it's in the Downloads/RebEd section of this site.

What I couldn't find though, when I downloaded your models, mask, was the #s. When I downloaded MonCal for example, I didn't know what to replace.

Thank you all for the praises, that really lifts me up right before the next to lectures I'll have in half an hour (3hours of Automation theory and formal languages 8O ... ).

But Pucho, I do this solely for fun and simply cause I want to share it with everyone in our community, so I would feel really odd to receive money for that. And aside from that, if we'd make this commercial, then we'd have lawyers pretty fast upon our backs and I CAN live without them :D

As for the models, hmmm... I should have all, except the CC-7700 and the CC-9600 frigates plus some  more. Last week I found some XWA opt sites and they had some really nice models as well. I'm still sorting out, but there are things like Jerec's Vengeance and stuff among them 8)

Igor: see ? You called me once Mr. Mask and now everyone does

The modelnumbers are in my tutorial on the left (nav-frame) under

'shiptypes'. There you have all the numbers of the original models.

Hello Mr. Mask.

I've honestly never seen Mr. Igor call you 'Mr. Mask' before. At the time and from now on (If it's acceptable) I felt it appropriate and called for  . Didn't go through the lawyer scenario when I mentioned $! Sorry  . I guess good appreciation is satisfactory. Good cuz I'm broke! But you'd be worth it :) !

In regards to the models, though...you mean you've got all the original Rebellion models on hand already (except CC-7700 & CC-9600), or all of the .rtc card models?!

Anyway, you've been EXTREMELY helpful to one who was uninformed to begin with. All of these geniuses have been! But rest assured...it isn't in vein...I'm a BIG fan 8) ! I feel that's the only way for it to be worth it. Later  .

Everyone, please just call me Mask

Pucho: Yeah, should be pretty much everything, except those CEC frigates, maybe Night can help me out with this

Cards are already some on my page (link's in my profile), although I think I haven't published any for models like the Mc80b, or the Eclipse.

Gank: yep, that's what I planned to do, although the sites I found weren't updated for a year and more in other cases. So I dunno, if they still care, but rest assured that I would've asked anyway. 8)

Nice work Mask. You are very much appreciated, aat least in the small circle of die hard fans that we are. I look forward to seeing more of your rather (very) good work in the coming months.

Congratulations.

Thank you Col. Klink, Elvis and Pucho :D

More will surely come. I just received word from one of the guys with the xwa models today. He says his models are strict conversions/upgrades from the original xwa ones and that he hasn't really the authority to allow me to use 'em in Rebellion. Confusing as that might've been, he assured me, that the upgrades weren't really that hard to make :)

So I'll give it a try with the Dominator cruiser, Jerec's Vengeance and other stuff. The Dominator shouldn't be that hard, just adding the spheres to the ISD hull, shading the hull a bit darker, ...

Maybe I'll also make an Xmas version of the ISD, red hull, black 'belt' and white command module

I read the 1st page of this thread and you mentioned some xwa sites. Could you give some links, please? I'm really interested in trying model conversion...

Check the 'Web Links' section of the website. There might be some information leading to what you're looking for in there.
