Personally, I think that the sith ships were on par in terms of firepower. One of them (The Leviathan) mananged to destroy all of taris. Also, the ship is ver large when your ship is taken in by it, more than capable of being ISD sized. Of coarse we will never know until there is an official report.

i guess the leviathan was bigger than the ISD. the leviathan was a flagship of the sith right? that would have been stronger than the average ship of same.

Yeah, maybe the Leviathan was like an Alleigence cruiser or titan cruiser. I will have to look into that.

Well, you realised, that KotOR played 2000 years before the films? It is nearly the same like comparing a modern artillery with an ancient catapult.

And no, the Levithan did not destroy the planet Taris. A whole fleet did!

I know, but from the Cut scenes, it only showed the Levithan, so I will trust that for now. I dont trust Saul Karath or Malak anyway.

Well, I may be wrong, but I believe to remember to have seen more than one ship in the cut szenes. And I also think, Malak said something like "Move the fleet into attack position."

Apart from the fact that thw ship is 2000 years older than an ISD, as MDk pointed out, I might also point out that they only destroyed the city - and not the planet.

Given the time difference, I'd say without a doubt that an ISD would destroy one of those Sith Cruisers

Taris was like Coruscant, the city covered most of the planet and was multi-layered, poorer sections at the bottom, like Coruscant.

could be that your thinking more in earth terms where technology jumps in leaps and bounds, a decade's difference would create a huge technological advantage, in SW world the universe stayed almost the same, meaning the are more static than real world so maybe there is no real difference between the two? nyet?

ISd's are tougher.
Though the Basilisks are still up to date. And still feared.
It's relative. I read Fett is currently in the post NJO era overhauling a Mandalorian Frigate, upgrading it somewhat etc.
They are not high tech but very sturdy.
But a Stardestroyer remains top notch.

ISDs are certainly tougher than the Sith ships of a similar design to the Leviathan. There was a fleet of ships that you can clearly see in the sequence where you're in the turret taking on the Sith fighters if you turn towards Taris you'll see a number of ships above Taris with explosions occuring on the surface of the planet.

Also if you look at the weaponry shown on starwars.com for the Leviathan, its main weapons are composed of Quad laser cannons, not turbolasers like the ISD, so obviously a Star Destroyer could easily face up to a Leviathan-class ship. Really there is no doubt that an Imperial Star Destroyer could face down a Sith ship with relative ease, but for its day the Leviathan was a formidable warship.

As tempest said, the ISD is much more powerful than the leviathan.
StarWars.com wrote:
It was a great blow to the Republic when the Leviathan's commander, Admiral Saul Karath, defected to the growing Sith forces. The pride of the Republic navy became its greatest threat. Karath filled the cavernous hangar bays with two squadrons of agile Sith fighters, which supplemented its formidable arsenal of 20 quad laser cannons, a tractor beam projector, two ion cannons and four turbolaser batteries.

And the ISD
Quote:
The Imperial-class Star Destroyer bristles with 60 turbolaser batteries, 60 ion cannon batteries, and 10 tractor beam projectors. It carries a full stormtrooper division, 20 AT-ATs, 30 AT-STs, eight Lambda-class shuttles, 12 landing barges, and six TIE squadrons.

I think a single ISD could easily destroy 3 Leviathans.

I would say that they WERE on par. If not slightly better (menacing) looking than the ISD.

BTW Admiral_Sarn, where is your avatar from? A Lucasarts Game?
