As we all know, GL and the developers of Rebellion, most likely just pulled system names out of their collective arse when assembly sectors for the game (i.e. Yaga Minor in the Sesswenna sector next to Coruscant, when Carida is much closer on a galaxy map, even though that's in another sector in the game :? ). Anyway, I'm thinking about "re-arranging" the galaxy in a somewhat more accurate layout, plus I want to add in several systems that seem to have gone missing (Oooww, Master Kenobi has lost the Kamino system :D ), such as: Kuat, Fondor, Rendeli, Alderaan, Thyferra, Adumar, etc.

Now, awhile back I downloaded this galaxy map somewhere (probably here at SWR)

And now it appears somebody might have updated it with this one. There are several minor movements of systems, but more systems added.

So, I have several questions:

1) There are several numbered "boxes" on the maps that make me believe that there are "detailed" layouts available ... somewhere. Has anybody ever seen these "detailed layouts" that correspond to these maps?

2) I've mentioned a couple of systems I would like to add; does anybody have other ideas (and why you chose that particular system)?

3) Since this is a total new layout, what systems would you like to have together in what sectors?

This could lead to more core sectors for this version of the game (i.e. more raw materials available, more populated systems, etc.). All of this can be done using RebEd and Resource Hacker; it just takes time. Please share your thoughts

It is the map from nav-computer.com - but sadly the site hasn't been running in a while. Cartographer was the guy who maintained and updated it, I don't know if he still doing that
I have mirrored it over at http://www.swcic.net

Those boxes are indeed more detailed, inlet images. I have them somewhere.

Really, this is some of the best work to show positions of systems, within the references given throughout the Expanded Universe. Some contradictions were explained on the nav-computer site.

I read through most of that site at one time or another. It's good that they normally show the alternate planet locations with an asterix next to them or whatever. It's size and relative accuracy is good for planning out story arcs.

I've tried doing this before Tex. It's murder let me tell you.
Eventually I just gave up as I had better things to waste my time on.

Good Luck! :D (Perhaps you have more patience than me.)

Well, if you should stumble across them ... soon, it would be much appreciated to see them posted

I hear you Def. Patience I have, it's the time constraints that always get me :( . There's always something popping its ugly head up that needs attention ASAP :? But, I'm at least going to try

Well the reason that Alderaan in not on the Galactic Map is because the game starts out after the first Death Star blew up, I am sure you already know that...Therefor I have no idea why I am posting this...But planets like Kuat would be good.

Mod the game to start with a death star destroyed system named Alderaan? Maybe even start it with the Death Star in orbit of the destroyed system and Han, Luke, Chewie, and Obi Wan on the planet surface of the destroyed system with a sabotage mission in process. Since the game skips a day in the initializing process (gameplay starts on day 2) the player would be unable to move the death star. This would give the probability that the Empire may or may not have a death star to start the game depending on the mission outcome of day 1? That would be an interesting scenario, someone toss together a mod for my idea :)

Bastion. And perhaps the Corporate Sector?

I don't suppose they would map all the galactic drive-throughs? Surely there is fast food pit stops on trade lines? Truck stops with hookers, etc. Other functional information that would otherwise be part of Google Earth novelities and markers

Yeah, the system would look like this Image
I would like for it to still have system energy but no populace (sort of like an outer rim system), so the rubble could be mined/processed. Which makes me think the Death Star has been mis-labeled; it's really a SMERSH (Super Mining Energy Resilent Sledge Hammer) (it turns planets into smaller "rocks" for mining)

I guess that would be an alternate/parallel universe kind of thing, since Obi-wan died, and the DS is already supposed to be destroyed. But, I'll look into it (just a tiny bit though  ).

OK, I have made a bit of progress. So I guess I could share what I have accomplished to date ...

New sector names and locations ...
Image

Sector importance ...
Image

and finally, sectors per galaxy size ...
Image

I'm not quite done tweaking the "importance" and "game size" info just yet, but for the most part it's practically done.

My next task is to work on all of the system names (there's only 200 of them, and some will be recycled  ).

Excellent work, DarthTex! I'm trying to correlate my own galaxy map with your screenshots thus far, and have a newb question: certain sectors won't let me type out their full name (ex: Tion Hegemony). How can I do this?

Anything and everything; from character names, starship names, systems, sectors can be overwritten by using Resource hacker and compiling a new script. The folder to do it in is Textextra off the top of my head :)

J is correct in that the best way to rename anything is using Resource Hacker. That's what I used (because as you found out using RebEd), RebEd limits the sector name lengths. The file with the "names" is TEXTSTRA.DLL
