How to use a deathstar

Question

Hi,

I'm wondering how to use a deathstar. I like to build one cause it's quite fun, but it's useless. It is very slow so i never catch rebel fleet with it. It is unable to bombards trought shield generator, and if I use his special weapon, the whole sector enter in uprising. At the end, I simply let it at Coruscant which the rebs never attach and my Death Star do nothing. With the money it costs and the time to build, I could make fleets of ISDs (which are fun AND usefull).

But I saw in some topic on this forum that many of you build it. Is it only for fun, or I have missed something very important?

It is good for several things even without using the superlaser. First, it will bring planets under control. Planets in the same sector as the Death Star will become more loyal to you, presumably out of fear of the Death Star. If the Death Star leaves the sector, the systems will lose loyalty to you.

Also, the Death Star is great in orbital battles. At the start of the battle, the Death Star's superlaser is fully charged. So you can click on the superlaser, then a Rebel capital ship, and the Death Star will instantly destroy it. If the battle is a longer one, the superlaser will eventually recharge, allowing you to fire at another capital ship.

Thirdly, the Death Star has awesome carrying capabilities in regards to fighters and troops.

Also, the Death Star helps out in bombardments. When you perform a bombardment with a fleet containing a Death Star, the Death Star will increase the bombardment value, resulting in greater devastation. However, I think you have to have at least another capital ship in the fleet in order for the bombardment option to come up.

The Death Star also makes good bait. Rebels will constantly be trying to sabotage it, so as long as you have plenty of troops and some good personnel in command, you should be capturing a good number of Rebel scum.

Of course there's the superlaser itself, in all its planet-busting awesomeness. Sure, some people will be sad and upset when you blow away their neighbors, but so what? You just blew up a freakin' planet!!! Its an awesome way to destroy the Rebel HQ once you find it. And remember, when you blow away a planet, there is a good chance of capturing or killing the Rebel personnel on there.

Lastly, the Death Star is just so cool. How can you not make one?!

Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the Dark Side!

Actually I never tried that or better I even didn´t knew that. 8O:oops:

I rarely build a Death Star, because the Rebells have been already defeated before its even finished.

Who cares at all?!

Cool. I did not know that.

But for the over reasons you give, I m not convinced., because the rebs don't try to sabotage it, nor they attack it with fleets. I'll probably continue to build Deathstar because they are cool, and perhaps the rebs will please me in attacking it or destroying it (it's cool too)

lol- I always enjoyed the videos of Death Star destruction in Rebellion, even if it was my Death Star being destroyed by a crapload of A-wings.

The Death Star is, in my opinion, best off acting as a defender of Coruscant. With a Death Star and two shield generators (two, not one) in a multiplayer game, any units attempting to invade will get their butts handed to them on a silver platter. You can skimp resources from Coruscant as well, when you have a DS in orbit. A few interdictor cruisers and definitely a ton of fighters/bombers to repel the Rebels, but the DS can take out a ton of ships while you just move your Interdictors all over the screen/blast fighters with them.

Mind you, that's advice for a multiplayer game. So far as the AI is concerned, attacking Coruscant is a complete and total foolish move that should never be undertaken, unless it's in the first few days of the game and the Rebels hold, like, half of the Sesswenna sector to start with, plus have an insane number of Blockade Runners.

The first time I ever built and used a Death Star was when I was in a stalemate with the Rebels. So I used the weapon to tip the balance of power in my favor. However, I used it sparingly when it came to destroying planets. I think I destroyed 3 Rebel worlds, and the rest of the time I used it in fleet battles to take out capital ships.

i too enjoy using a DS as bait. i usually have it fully stocked and ready to rock. do you ever have that one sector that is completely under Allied control? yeah, i scout out all the planetary defenses and find out which planet has the most resources with the least defenses. bring a whole fleet along with a DS with a ompliment of ISDs, Escort Carriers, and the like. protection of the DS is top priority because of costs involved. i time the arrival of my fleet with the production of a DS shield generator. after i immediately sieze the planet, i change the destination of the shield generator to the planet that i have just reclaimed for the Empire.

before i sent my fleet to claim the planet, i made sure that the planetary garrison was built and ready. this includes troops and fighters. one way to decimate an enemy fleet quickly is to have tons fo fighters. in the past, i have built a dozen tie fighters, and any number of tie bombers and defenders, but i build interceptors like crazy (i mean like 500 or so, but i only built that many once...it was great. but i digress). as long as you have four types of fighters, each fighter type will have its own color group. so it you have a TON of tie interceptors they will be in one massive fighter group. i defend all of my key planets this way. large fighter groups like this are very quick to destroy most any group of enemy ships, capital of fighter. so immediately after i capture this new planet from the alliance held sector, i send this bee's nest of fighters to the planet.

So my fleet would be a fully equiped DS and 5 or 6 interdictor cruisers, with a good admiral (Thrawn is my fav).

My planet would be stocked with lots of troops, espionage droids, Commandos, a general, a commander if possible (someone with high diplomacy or espionage), and a TON of fighters.

as for planetary defenses, all i put is the DS shield generator. the lack of planetary defense mixed with the large troop concentration always draws an Allied fleet. as long as your shield generator remains unscathed, the legions fo fighters will smash the allied fighters. using the navigation cube, spread your interdictors out and keep them moving. with a HUGE HUGE fighter force, the nav cube will be ginormous, so the playing field will be nice and big. move your fighters to one navigation point away from the allied fleet if you want to get good use out of your death star.

Headlines read: "Death Star destroys entire Allied fleet single handedly!"

as an experiment, after i had complete popular support in the inner systems and most of the outer systems, i wanted to see if i could use my Two Death Stars to bring the galaxy under my control. with one DS on each side of the galaxy, i started to just blow up Allied planets until all planets were under my control. the results: the inner systems mostly rebelled after blowing up an entire sector. but after blowing up planet after planet that turned to the rebels, the galaxy came under my control. i blew up about half the galaxy. "Unlimited Power!"
