AI and difficulty question.

Question

Hey, I'm not a newbie to Rebellion - been playing it for years when I get some time. I just finised off a game as the Empire. Started up a new game - no mods - big galaxy - moderate difficulty.

I thought setting the difficulty to moderate would cause the AI to make some more rational moves, but it seems to have just stacked the cards in the Rebels favor. The game kicked off with the Empire having 1 SD over Corusant and a VD in the system over another planet. 2 other systems have a VD and the other core sytem has a Galleon.

Starting fleet is

1 SD

3 VD

1 Galleon

To top it off other than the Sector with Corusant, none of the planets I've started out with have a construction yard. Rebels already have 1/2 again as many planets and I wasn't in the game 100 days before a fleet showed up a Corusant. Rebels had 4 Medium Transports, 2 Corvettes, 1 Escort Carrier and a Frigate. They came out of hyperspace with their fighters in a line. Once the battle started my Ties had to I guess launch because they just circled under the SD forever before engaging the enemy. By then the Rebs had the ships turned around and booked for hyperspace. Is this the typical slant or what?

The AI allways withdraws from a space-battle when it´s aware that it can´t win it. The discribed alliance-fleet was rather weak and wouldn´t have had any chance to win. The ties allways start from the hangar-bays of a cruiser. They have to form up first. Untill all fighters of a squadron have started they will commence the attack. Only fighters, which are stationed on a planet, don´t have to do that.

I had Ties both on the Ship and on the planet. In my experience you better bring at least 2X as many TIES to the Fight or the Rebs will hand you your ass in a bag.

A SD against 2 Corvetts, a Frigate, an Escort Carrier, and 4 Transports made me think I was about to loose a Star Destroyer. Especially if any of the Rebel Fighters survived the dogfight.

On another note I soon tripped across the Rebel Headquarters while checking the outer rim sector closest to Corusant. I only had 1 ship and had NO chance against the Rebel ARMADA!

Seeing the addition of all these other ships out there has caused me to thinking about starting another game. I may be able to push a victory out of this, but it will be an uphill battle and countless hours.

That´s a good decission.

The x- and y-wings of that small fleet were indeed the only dangerous thing. I´ve once destroyed a SD with only two x-wings. That took very long, but it worked very well. It´s hard to battle against small fighters only with one SD.

That would be exactly the type of game I would want! Hopeless odds and possible defeat! The shear joy of playing hours on end to beat the AI (again). Tough games are hard to come by, and are the most enjoyable

Finally, after years of hard work I am the Supreme Sith Warlord! Muwhahahaha!! What?? What do you mean "there's only two of us"?
