Ulic walked into Derlin's office as Derlin spoke into the comlink and Ulic took a seat waiting for Derlin to finish the call. In the mean time he himself quietly made a call to check on the status of the crew and repairs on his ship.

IC as Jon
"Heads up... we have contacts." As they closed with the unknown contacts they had slowly become clearer.
At last his computer got him the identity of one of them.
"Nebulon-B... IFF claims it to be the abdicator. Check the holonet, find out who its allied to Jeff."

He lead the flight to swing away from the moon.... he wanted to had time to get moving if they were spotted.

"Got 2... A-Wings, mark II... Oldies," said Scearcy over the comm. "We also have a half dozen light freighters... none of them are ringing a bell... though they're flying with military precision. Looks like we have New Republic forces."

Jeff then said, "Abdicator recently defected to the Alliance according to the holonet..."

A pause as they came into view. They were very distant, Jon could just make out a light freighter. Suddenly they scattered.

Jon glanced at his sensors. "Spotted... The freighters are scattering. A-Wings are closing... i have 2 more launching from the Abdicator..." Jon did some quick math is his head.

"2 Flight, turn back, head back to base. Stay inside 1.5 kilometers of us. Tara, stick tight, we're closing." Jon flicked a switch and his S-Foils deployed. 5 kilometers out... wished he could fire. His torpedoes had a 5km range, there concussions were only 4...
4 kilometers away...
Rattler screamed behind him. A lock.
"Scatter, 2 flight, lock em up." Rattler screamed again... incoming, 7 seconds away. Jon flew away for 3 seconds before chopping the throttle to zero, inverting and opening up. The single missile exploded brilliantly. Beside him, Tara skillfully dove out of the way and the missile flew by, calculated it wouldn't hit and exploded.

"1 away!" called out Scearcy. One down... they had 20 seconds to gun down the second A-Wing... or else they'd have to take on the next... 6 fighters... 4 of them looked like TIE fighters... but they had shields. A sign of a newly defected ship. 2 flight was closer though...

"2 flight, back to base. Stand off firing Tara." Jon whipped the X-Wing around, settled the crosshairs over it and waited for Rattler to get a lock... the beeping increased until it rang solid.
"1 away," he said as he pulled the trigger. It exploded brilliantly. "Back to base... full speed, all power to it."
Jon transfered lasers, shields, and pretty much all other power to the engines. The X-Wing leaped ahead to that almost equal of an A-Wing.

Behind him, the A-Wings turned back.

"We're clear... Stay away from the Republic forces. We'll wait until we're on the ground to report... stay frosty. Any idea why they screwed up our sensors?"

Scearcy came back almost immediatly. "Sir, they had a radar dish on the moon... it was brodcasting weird frequencies. Something to do with Oscillations... and all of those freighters IFF's were logged to land within the next few hours... a way to insert into the city."

Oh shit... "Contact, ground control. Have armed infantry meet every shuttle that lands... make sure they're clean."

IC as Iodit

"WHAT!" Iodit was nearly yelling at Muloor in front of him. "You mean that a New Republic Ship fired upon us! Are you sure?"

General Muloor nodded gravely. "Yes sir... They had freighters that were supposed to land... They undoubtably won't now though.. I have put in the security effects i told you about... But the real question is what do we do about the Republic... Our second mercanaries are waiting a 2 minute Hyperspace jump away, and there modified Carrack Cruiser and fighters could hurt them... but theres no way they'd survive. And our second group isn't several weeks away!"

Iodit sighed and sat down. "We will continue as normal. Leave the starport security in place. Return the X-Wings to Standby... What's the probability the Republic picked up the engagement? Just in case it wasn't them."

Muloor shrugged. "Theres no way they could know the exact details of the fight. They could of picked up the missile launches, and quite possible the destruction of the 2 A-Wings would be noticed... though we're 95% sure it was the republic. So they know anyways."

Iodit sighed again... "Nothing must be leaked... the Republic must not know anything on the subject."

The general saluted and turned to leave.

"One more thing general... how's the ambassador?"

Muloor smiled. "He's doing fine sir. He's very happy that we're keeping him here and letting him negotiate with us despite his forces being driven off. If we go with them, he has promised the additional strenght of an Imperial and a Victory II destroyer to help us drive off the rebels..."

"And the agents?"

"We've picked up 3... we're having them tailed. We hope they lead to something more. We know theres many more though sir. Anything else?"

Iodit shook his head, Muloor saluted again and left.
Playing 2 sides off against each other wasn't easy... but the benefits could be huge...

"Well, I've got a rough idea on how scanners work. Anyway, we've got a handful of techs to help us if we get stuck. Now, I was going to start our little meeting by inquiring how exactly we're going to investigate the signals if there aren't any Imperials around? We can't wait here for ever, just hoping they show . . . "

Karn was cut short as the room's lights shut down and were replaced by several red lights and a warning klaxons. Kre'nel was already heading to the turbolift as Karn called out for a report on what was going on.
"Sit rep!"
"Sir," a technician at one of the consoles in the cargo hold called out. "Long range scanners are picking up an intermediate signal. It’s too weak to pinpoint or verify – though the signal suggests that there is a large number of vessels towards sector 224.04.003. The signal appears to in the vicinity of the moon. We are unable to get any other information on the signal . . . Sir, the contacts have disappeared!â€

Arten stood, quietly fuming as he waited for the captian to finish his call. Make me fly on the Nova Dream? In that pile of scrap? To make the captian of a perfectly operable freighter a passenger on some tea merchant's sorry excuse for a ship? The cheek!

Sensing that it probably wasn't a good time to be interrupting the captain if he wanted to have any hope of getting his ship back, he instead settled for casting accusing stares at the captain's back as he waited, making it clear that he was one unhappy customer.

OOC - No offense Ulic, I'm sure the Dream is a beautiful ship, it's just that Arten doesn't agree with me...

OOC: T'Char, the Reckless Wonderer is my frigate
Ulic's freighter is the Nova Dream - I'm guessing your meeting up on my frigate to get things organised before setting off for Hefi, or whatever it is that your character is planning on doing . . .

OCC: Heh no big deal, T'char. Although Corellian ships are the pure essance of beauty to a Corellian pilot...most other beings wouldnt agree.

OOC: Okay enough of the hog wash lets get back to the story.

BIC:

When Drelin finally came on the line Hunt was beyond waiting.

"Yes, Ambassador, what can I do for you?" Drelin said.

Hunt was in no pleasent mood.
"What the hell is going on? I should be on the planet making civil arrangement for peace, not sitting here talking to the likes of you. I want to know what the hold up is and how long it will take so I can at least call the local authorities and tell them what the hold up is. It would save them calling you."

Hunt was not going to wait for a reply.
"I want to be on the planet by 1500 hours. Is that possible?" he more said then asked. As he waited for Drelin's reply one of his officers walked in, placed a note on his desk and then walked back out again.

OOC - Oops!
I do know what you mean tho Ulic - My other main character (T'char) flies a corellian YV-666. Beautiful craft.

IC
The captain was still at it, conversing with some cranky politician or ambassador or something.

Still feeling dangerously furious, Arten gave up on waiting for the captain and stormed off to his ship. If he was going to have to fly in that sorry excuse for a spaceship, he was going to need to be well prepared...

Ulic was once again, trying despertly to find time to work on his limbered ship. He was back up topside attempting to repalce another panel near the man gun well, the rest of his temporary crew was working on the interior. After a very brief conversation with the General Ulic wasn't to happy. He still wasn't reciving the technicaians he so despertly needed on the aging ship, and since time was running short he was working hard. He only had but a few hours before he was to travel planetside....

Holding back the bitterness in his voice, Karn replied to the communication officer, "Very well."
"Didn't go well?" Kre'nel asked.
"Nope. All ships have been denied access to anywhere even remotely close to the moon."
Kre'nel didn't say anything. Karn didn't like just sitting around and doing nothing. He had been given an assignment, and he couldn't do anything about it except sit around and hope the Empire would launch an assault on the New Republic fleet.
Kre'nel finally spoke up, as if she read his mind. "The Empire wont risk attacking the fleet sir - it would only hamper their political efforts with Hefi.
Simply put, if we wish to complete our assigned mission we will be forced to try alternative tactics."
"I all ready know that Kre'nel - though what can we do about it? We're tied to this fleet, and unless we track down the Imps and get their fleet to initiate their jammers we can't do much."
"True sir - though what if we were able to locate an Imperial vessel that was by itself or lightly gaurded?"
"I'm listening."
"Surely the Imperial fleet didn't bring all their troops to be risked in the fleet engagement. Perhaps when they move troops in . . "
"No, the Empire wouldn't risk troop transports to be seen by Hefi. Though . . though, you've got a point. Even the Empire's ships need fleet tenders - and not just for the usually military purposes. Tranportation of personal, food stuffs and more.
"If we could capture one of those ships . . . no, too ambitious. Though there would be escort, and they might have the same jammers to hide the tenders, or even disguise them as something larger to make the attacking force retreat."
"Should we pass this by the General, sir?"
"No, not yet - first I'll tell Alex about it."
"Who?"
"Sorry, Sergeant Brandei."
Then both Karn and Kre'nel left the bridge to find Brandei.

OOC: Sorry, everybody. Real life has been dealt with, for now.

IC as Drelin:

"Ambassador, you're more than welcome to contact the Hefian government and do whatever you can from here. For one thing, you can inquire as to what just happened around their moon, since, according to this", flourishing the note he'd been handed, "we're neither invited nor allowed to investigate it with the fleet."

"However, until the security situation on the ground has been stabilized, no Repulic personnel, most especially Republic ambassadors, will be going anywhere near the surface. Your safety on this mission is my responsibility, and there's no way in hell I'm letting a ranking ambassador anywhere near possible Imperial influence. Especially a Bothan", he couldn't resist adding.

Gonna pay for that later. Felt good, though.

IC, Brandei:

Alex looked up as Karn and Kre'nel re-entered the cargo bay/"intelligence office", and stiffened to anntention as Karn drew near.

"Sir, this new array works pretty well. I wasn't able to get any direct information on that engagement near the moon, but I did get enough to know that it wasn't anything of ours, nor were there any indications of the same type of sensor interference we saw before."

"Now, to continue our earlier conversation: you'd asked how we were going to accomplish anything without an Imperial presence to monitor. We actually already had enough of a contact to at least determine what we're NOT facing, and put some theoretical parameters on what we are facing. I've been going over the fleet sensor data that was crosslinked to the Alderaan; remember that the interference was targetted at specific sensor systems, like individual gunner stations. By comparing that with the "clean" feed we got from systems like navigation, we can get a pretty accurate picture of what was happening."

Alex paused to pull up the relevant data, mindful too that Karn might want to get a word in edgewise; he knew he had a tendancy to babble when "teching out".

IC as Iodit

Iodit pressed the button on the comlink. "Send him in... Your sure he wasn't followed?... good."
The door opened and a rather pompous looking man walked in.

"Harrumph... all that security. What's your big worry?"

"Ambassodor, please. Your own security forces were driven off. The rebels are above there, and god knows how many have infiltrated down. If they discovered we were meeting... the results could be disastrous. As it is, can you still gurantee the forces we discusse dof before?"

"Of course... that and more. You and your other... non-human... councillors can remaing as councillors, though you will need to add 4 seats to the government for Imperial Liason... 50 million credits per year plus a bonus of 150 million upon initial sign up. And then there are some more... shady side of the dealings I'm sure you don't want to have spoken." He passed over a sheet. Iodit quickly read it and let out a low whistle.

"My lord... my lord... Well, if the Republic doesn't send down there ambassador soon... I'm pretty sure you'll have us!"
The man grinned, as did Iodit.

"Sounds good... Your men will conduct me out?" Iodit nodded. "Pleasure doing business."
With that he lifted up his considerable bulk, turned away and walked out.

Iodit placed a call into his secratary next. "Contact the republic. They have 24 hours to have the ambassador on the ground, and we meet 6 hours thereafter at the latest... otherwise they can just leave the damn planet and never return.... Yes, in those words please and thank you!"
He pressed the button to turn it off and leaned back... life was good.
