NEW ROLE PLAY - Mission at Hefi

Holding back the bitterness in his voice, Karn replied to the communication officer, "Very well."

"Didn't go well?" Kre'nel asked.

"Nope. All ships have been denied access to anywhere even remotely close to the moon."

Kre'nel didn't say anything. Karn didn't like just sitting around and doing nothing. He had been given an assignment, and he couldn't do anything about it except sit around and hope the Empire would launch an assault on the New Republic fleet.

Kre'nel finally spoke up, as if she read his mind. "The Empire wont risk attacking the fleet sir - it would only hamper their political efforts with Hefi.

Simply put, if we wish to complete our assigned mission we will be forced to try alternative tactics."

"I all ready know that Kre'nel - though what can we do about it? We're tied to this fleet, and unless we track down the Imps and get their fleet to initiate their jammers we can't do much."

"True sir - though what if we were able to locate an Imperial vessel that was by itself or lightly gaurded?"

"I'm listening."

"Surely the Imperial fleet didn't bring all their troops to be risked in the fleet engagement. Perhaps when they move troops in . . "

"No, the Empire wouldn't risk troop transports to be seen by Hefi. Though . . though, you've got a point. Even the Empire's ships need fleet tenders - and not just for the usually military purposes. Tranportation of personal, food stuffs and more.

"If we could capture one of those ships . . . no, too ambitious. Though there would be escort, and they might have the same jammers to hide the tenders, or even disguise them as something larger to make the attacking force retreat."

"Should we pass this by the General, sir?"

"No, not yet - first I'll tell Alex about it."

"Who?"

"Sorry, Sergeant Brandei."

Then both Karn and Kre'nel left the bridge to find Brandei.

OOC: Sorry, everybody. Real life has been dealt with, for now.

IC as Drelin:

"Ambassador, you're more than welcome to contact the Hefian government and do whatever you can from here. For one thing, you can inquire as to what just happened around their moon, since, according to this", flourishing the note he'd been handed, "we're neither invited nor allowed to investigate it with the fleet."

"However, until the security situation on the ground has been stabilized, no Repulic personnel, most especially Republic ambassadors, will be going anywhere near the surface. Your safety on this mission is my responsibility, and there's no way in hell I'm letting a ranking ambassador anywhere near possible Imperial influence. Especially a Bothan", he couldn't resist adding.

Gonna pay for that later. Felt good, though.

"I...I don't believe it!"

"THAT is why you fail."

IC, Brandei:

Alex looked up as Karn and Kre'nel re-entered the cargo bay/"intelligence office", and stiffened to anntention as Karn drew near.

"Sir, this new array works pretty well. I wasn't able to get any direct information on that engagement near the moon, but I did get enough to know that it wasn't anything of ours, nor were there any indications of the same type of sensor interference we saw before."

"Now, to continue our earlier conversation: you'd asked how we were going to accomplish anything without an Imperial presence to monitor. We actually already had enough of a contact to at least determine what we're NOT facing, and put some theoretical parameters on what we are facing. I've been going over the fleet sensor data that was crosslinked to the Alderaan; remember that the interference was targetted at specific sensor systems, like individual gunner stations. By comparing that with the "clean" feed we got from systems like navigation, we can get a pretty accurate picture of what was happening."

Alex paused to pull up the relevant data, mindful too that Karn might want to get a word in edgewise; he knew he had a tendancy to babble when "teching out".

"I...I don't believe it!"

"THAT is why you fail."

IC as Iodit

Iodit pressed the button on the comlink. "Send him in... Your sure he wasn't followed?... good."

The door opened and a rather pompous looking man walked in.

"Harrumph... all that security. What's your big worry?"

"Ambassodor, please. Your own security forces were driven off. The rebels are above there, and god knows how many have infiltrated down. If they discovered we were meeting... the results could be disastrous. As it is, can you still gurantee the forces we discusse dof before?"

"Of course... that and more. You and your other... non-human... councillors can remaing as councillors, though you will need to add 4 seats to the government for Imperial Liason... 50 million credits per year plus a bonus of 150 million upon initial sign up. And then there are some more... shady side of the dealings I'm sure you don't want to have spoken." He passed over a sheet. Iodit quickly read it and let out a low whistle.

"My lord... my lord... Well, if the Republic doesn't send down there ambassador soon... I'm pretty sure you'll have us!"

The man grinned, as did Iodit.

"Sounds good... Your men will conduct me out?" Iodit nodded. "Pleasure doing business."

With that he lifted up his considerable bulk, turned away and walked out.

Iodit placed a call into his secratary next. "Contact the republic. They have 24 hours to have the ambassador on the ground, and we meet 6 hours thereafter at the latest... otherwise they can just leave the damn planet and never return.... Yes, in those words please and thank you!"

He pressed the button to turn it off and leaned back... life was good.

IC as Jon

"Very well sir, I'll go see him right away.... Ok, I'll bring Tara and a squad... Yes sir, thank you sir." He hung up the call and immediatly walked out.

"Tara, get saddled up for a ground op... Seargent, have you and second squad meet us outside in 5 minutes. 3 in civ gear, 5 in normal gear..."

"Sir!" He snapped to it, speaking into his comlink as he jogged away.

"Whats up?" asked Tara.

"Dunno... We're going to meet the president for a 'special meeting' and we are supposed to come along armed." He shrugged and went to grab his own gear.

They arrived at the presidents door 15 minutes later. The soldiers had to wait outside but he and Tara would go in. The secratary buzzed them through.

"You called for us sir?"

Head Councillor Iodit glanced up. "Ah yes, the mercanaries. Come along, we're leaving. You have the equipment I asked for?" Jon nodded. "Very good. Outside." They walked back out of the security... Jon didn't know what was going on but it was weird.

"Jon, your in the back with me. Tara, your driving. Your soldiers will take the truck you came in." Jon nodded as he got into the car.

"Scan it please Jon. Tara, get us moving." Tara nodded and the car lurched into motion. Jon brought out a small device and played with it for a bit.

"Got one." He reached over Iodit and plucked a tiny invisible device off the siding, then threw it out. "Clean sir. 99.34% likely."

Iodit frowned but said nothing. "ok... heres how it goes. Your men are up on the roof above the location. You, Tara and you 3 civilian looking men are on the ground with me. Say nothing. Do nothing. If anyone... and i mean anyone looks like hes pulled a gun, shoot first and ask questions later. If law enforcement or military approaches, get me out of there and don't worry about opening fire."

Jon nodded slowly. "Uh, ok sir."

"Very good. Pull over here." Tara did. "Tell your men what i just said... scan there jeep too." Jon nodded, got out and headed back. He returned a few moments later.

"Good to go sir." Iodit nodded, and started them driving again. He gave directions to Tara, and had Jon watch for a tail. They were clear so he at last pulled into a small back alley plaza.

Jon and Tara clambered out, hands near there pistols. The soldiers got out and 5 of them immediately scrambled up to the rooof. 3 others took up position around the vehicle as Iodit got out.

“Excellent work. Worth every penny. There is more money then what your getting however.â€

Karn bit his lip and thought. After a second of pause, he spoke.

"Hmm, so the jammers weren't directed at us, but were active? Interesting, we need to tell the General about this ASAP.

"As for the info - it does show us what we've faced, though its to ineffecient to do on the fly during the battle. As for debriefing and assessing further battles its fine, thoguh we still lack an efficient way to judge targets during a battle.

"Nevertheless, what have we faced so far? Keep in mind, I garantee that the Imperial's are holding some units in reserve for us."
