Randomness III

I knew it would only be a matter of time before SOCL locked down the previous Randomness thread. Actually I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did (102 pages), but he's been away abit lately.

So, now for something completely different, I mean random ...

Happy InterNational Doughnut Day!

A bit late in the day, but ... better late than never! :D

Take a look at the The MegaPenny Project

And tomorrow is Worldwide D&D Game Day! :P

@Eagle: nice video clip, I guess I did throw a curve there

Tex, I'd like to thank you for spelling doughnut correctly. I happens all too rarely these days. In celebration of National Doughnut Day I will eat my share of the tasty treats (despite the fact I'm late in doing so).

History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.

In lack of decent randomness, I'll give you all a slight does of my real-life randomness. I have a job interview in a few hours, and to prepare for it I got a haircut. Some of you may remember that my hair was quite long when last you saw it- it only got longer. It was at my shoulders two days ago... and now- now it looks like this. Curse you, society! First my beard, now my hair! YOU CAN TAKE MY HAIR FOLLICLES, BUT YOU CAN'T TAKE MUH FREEDOM!

It´s kinda sad that after all that 68s thing people still don´t accept longer hair. While on the other side somebody, especially women, with a piercing in her face, gets more acceptance and even a job in a bank than a guy with long hair. :?

Thumbs up for the interview, Tofu!

One thing to add: hair grows! :D

@Eagle: I'm growing it back out ASAP. That job interview was pure crap- I could work anywhere from zero to forty hours a week doing hard, manual labor (lifting up to 75 pounds all day) until virtually whenever, and I had to be available to go in to work until 11 AM five days a week, working, as I said, until whenever. And, as the woman pointed out, there were 150 people ahead of me on the list of people to be called in. Pure. Stupid. Bull crap. The job description mentioned none of that.

I'm applying at the humane society now to work with dogs. It's probably worth mentioning that I don't like dogs, and that dogs don't like me very much. Seven bucks an hour to pick up dog crap... Joy. Why must the economy suck so hard right now?

@Rob: Your new cat is creepy! That thing has one green eye and one yellow! If that doesn't prove that it's Zoot-spawn, I dunno what does!

I won´t change my hairdo for any kind of job never ever again. Especially not for such a sucky job like that mentioned by you, Tofu. Like I´ve just mentioned above, people are willing today to accept bankers with piercings in their face so why not people with long hair? Leave such kind of bad jobs behind, especially when you have to work that hard for just a bit of money. Lifting such kind of heavy weights all day would harm your back seriously and you would probably have to suffer all your life for that. I had to do such a kind of job after leaving school and being an apprentice and my back looks terrible nowadays. Try rather something like delivering the newspapers.

BTW if you keep your hair growing you allways can wear it as a pony-tail. That way you would also look acceptable in the eyes of those conservative folk.

Who cares at all?!

Tell you what- is you do it first and can prove to me that it works, I'll totally hop on board, Sinister. Otherwise, I'd really rather not accidentally bork up my engine.

@Eagle: I would continue growing out my hair, but as you can clearly see, half of it found its way to the floor of a local Supercuts. I didn't know that the job would suck as badly as it did (I didn't get the job description until that day), but I'm applying to a bunch of other jobs tomorrow. Picked up the applications today, filling them out tonight, hoping for the best in a few weeks.

Cool Rob 8) Loki looks like my cat Tiger (except for the cyborg eye  ). He looks to be an older cat (NOT a kitten); was he adopted from the local animal shelter? Are you going to "adopt" a companion cat so he won't get lonely? My recommendation would be to get another cat, maybe a "blond" colored and name him Thor (to keep Loki in line)

Have fun! :D

As you have already surmised, that is a scam. Technically though, it is possible to do this, just NOT in the manner you would normally suspect. There is a company (click on the video) in Clearwater, Florida that has demonstrated this. They do "on demand" electrolysis, with the added flare of getting HHO gas. Basically another system of using more energy than you get out (electricity in, hydrogen-oxygen gas out for combustion), but it increases the efficiency of the combustion in the engine, thus getting more power for less gas. And with gas prices rising, this might be worthwhile to "stretch" your petroleum dollars :)

We adopted him from Pet Smart, which has an adoption center which is based out of the county's humane society. They said he was about a year old. And thus far, he is living up to his name.

But I think one is good for now.

I was not putting my endorsement on it. I'd be reluctant to try something like that too due to the possibility of messing up my engine.

Yup, what Tex said. There's been a few of "these" products shown here on "Current Affair" programs - each person staking claim to it being their idea.

I've seen it work on old cars, but I'd be interested to see how modern cars go on the stuff. Apart from the obvious "not working" I wonder if ECU's are smart enough to compensate for the added HHO - I'd be thinking if it couldn't figure out the difference between regular fuel (say a low octane like the crap 90-92 we get here) to the modified stuff you'd get knocking in the engine.

Also, any idea how more modern fuel injectors or direct injection (basically injectors firing directing into the cylinders) would take this stuff? They're not exactly known for being robust (for those who don;t know, never EVER let your car run completely out of fuel, the high pressure injectors will get worn away. Also if you're low on fuel, taking corners at speed or even hills can stop fuel getting through the injectors. Ditto for Diesel. Injectors don't like to spray just air  ) I'd be curious on how they effect the life of such a crucial engine part. A lot of people seem to forget that even if you pay a grand in petrol and think that's a lot - the chance is that the repair cost is going to be a lot more if you bugger things up.

Does anyone else ever get these "great breakthrough" devices such as items to attach to your fuel lines to further "catalyse" the fuel? I always laugh when they're on these so called Current Affair programs who one week will be all for them, saying they achieved greater fuel efficiency (No, you didn't there's just a restricter on your fuel lines now - you can achieve the same result by not pushing so hard on the accelerator) and the next week they go and show they're a waste of money.

Oh well, I'm not going to bother with anything like that on my car.

@Sin: Good find though! I had a laughing fit at that little lady video on the side!

Interesting find. :)

Where is that bunker? Haven´t found any reference for that or did I just overread it? :?

Here are some more interesting pics of that site:

http://unseenjersey.proboards82.com/index.cgi?board=jerseyreports&action=display&thread=173

Down at the Rhine, where I live there is also a small bunker which was open since about ten years when they´ve decided to fill it with concrete, because all the kids crawled in there. It has been partly demolished after the french and american army set over the rhine. You still could see all those holes in the wall which the old Wehrmacht soldiers broke in by themselves to get all those shells out, because at the end of the war they were in need of metal so they collected what they could.

It´s a cubic like bunker of about 6 x 6 meters. On the flat roof there was supposed to be an AA-Gun. Those kind of bunkers where all along the Rhine back in those days.

The oral exams certainly went very well (just about only As or Bs). I amn not so sure about the written ones. I'll find out how those went on Wednesday. Fingers crossed.

What were the oral exams for? Foreign language? Or do you have to do other subjects with an oral exam as well?
