Yay! About the most fun game I have ever played, and to easily mod

Without all the telepathy I hope this time, just good old fashioned game play, as opposed to much Generals complexity, I gave up upon

Why, why, WHY!?!?! Where can they possibly go with this? The Allies won in RA2 and Russia is once again wiped off the map. With so many casulties from starting 2 World Wars, how could they ever get enough man power for another go?

EDIT: I'll still probably buy it.

Plots in these kinds of games do not always require logic.

Some interesting points about the game. I've gotten these from CNCNZ (again, great source of CNC news  ), but rather than strain their servers with some lurkers reading I'll repost what was written there.

Hagren, from our forums, has sent us a list of updated Red Alert 3 information. This was taken and translated from the PC Guru magazine Red Alert 3 preview. Some interesting stuff so its worth reading.

 Every unit has secondary functions. The allied tank for instance is able to concentrate radar beams to be used as a scouting unit

 Although not visible on the screens, there's going to be massive damaging in RA3, with weapons carving colossal craters into the ground

 Most structures are able to be bulit on water for extra cost

 Ships can only "land"/leave shore on sand, so its crucial to defend these areas

 The article writer claims that the impressive graphics don't shine through the screens. In his opinion, graphics are much better compared to CnC3, he's especially flabbergasted by the animations

 The Russians have a submarine called "Akula" which isn't simply deadly against ships, but is able to train divers as well

 The Bullfrog transport ship doesn't have to set shore, its able to "shoot" out the units it's carrying

 The Japanese Seawing bomber is able to transform into a submarine simply by falling into the water

 Sea battles will be crucial in this game

 The Japanese will have a water based tank called "Tsunami" which is both heavily armoured and powerful, and slower on land than in water

 The campaign can be co-operatively played with a friend from start to finish. If there's no one to play it with, you can choose between an array of AI allies to fight the war

 Starcraft 2's lead designer worked on RA3 before he went to Blizzard

 Gameplay will be much slower, an aspect, along with the beta, that the team concluded from Tiberium Wars. The writer confirms this slowdown.

 Enemy soldiers freeze upon Allied dogs barking

 The Mobile V4 is able to swim as well, but its main draw points is the precise and area effective attack.

 The Russians' submarine, the Stingray Nasad, sports Tesla-launchers, and is a rather small, but fast unit

 The writer praises the smooth animations, explosion effects and water in general again and again, its crazy!

 Live action FMVs are back mixed with CGI and outdoor scenes

 The writer holds that Red Alert 3 wont be as good as Starcraft 2, but damn close, and even better than Red Alert 2

 No Yuri

 Atmosphere is top notch

 Expansion pack is already planned

I've never touched a Red Alert game before.

Blasphemy!

Seriously get Red Alert 2. It is one of the best RTS games. Excellent storyline and characters... woohoo Tanya :)

Haha

I'm trying to picture this, so it 'shoots' tanks to the shore?

Seriously though, i'm looking forward to this, given the Red Alert series have been about the most fun games I have played, on my own or on a LAN network in a cyber cafe. The 'no Yuri' bit looks promising given all that mind controlling opponent's units with the Yuri's Revenge expansion pack shuved gameplay into the absurd IMO, though the Holywood campaign was unforgettable, having Arnie at your fingertips :)

I played the original Red Alert and the two expansion packs that came with. But, I never really got into Red Alert 2 ... I guess I just preferred the "realism" in the Tiberium series and stayed clear. Which is a shame, seeing most people seem to say RA2 was fun, and that's what you want in a game isn't it? :)

I just loved the Red 1, but the sequel was nothing for me really. Red3 looks simply stupid, but we have to try it first.

Stone me, but I loved Generals Zero Hour. I think it was an important step to get China and the Middle East to the game. It was absolutely superb to have those 3 shady factions, and had lots of dangerous humor too (which is IMPORTANT)

I know that Russia became somewhat hot topic again this year, but I still think this "plot" is way too weak.

The game features are good however, I would love to see these in a new CnC involving Russia (not with communism..soviet stuff is boring and outdated, rather some despotism ala Putin), China (with brainwashed pseudo-communism), UN/US, some Islam forces. With lots of critism, anti-propaganda, and some OIL issues... and humor seen in Generals.

One of the joys of RA2 were the editing tools available, especially with the Yuri's Revenge expansion pack. The map I modded with a para drop with Einstein and a pack of dogs still brings tears to the ears, 'Where is my chalk?' I think he shouts as he descends to the ground.

But yes, it must move on from the Soviet-era stuff, so addressing stuff like a bellicose China, various religious nutters in the middle east, is a welcome change and target for my guns :)
