Why is it when I read that, the first thing that popped into my mind was 'he downloads tentacle porn'? Because lord knows that is some funny stuff to watch.

nv9600gt, nv9600gt top, hd 3870,hd 3870 oc nv 8800gt, nv8000gs or even some gts or 8800gt oc?

Really the AMD/ATI cards cannot match the Nvidia ones.

TechReport recommends the 9600 GT, it is a midrange card that does well, built on the latest technology.
http://www.techreport.com/articles.x/14225/2

The next higher choice would be the 8800 GT. It has the performance of the 8800 GTS 640MB at a cheaper price.

In terms of specific variants, choose the best deal. If it is overclocked (OC I guess in your acronyms), then it may perform a little faster. But don't go and spend a lot for the extras.

Alright, thanks Evaders!

I think I'll wait a bit longer. Right now, my vote goes for an Asus 9600GT TOP (factory OC).

You're fortunate to have me then... among some in the WHS community I am considered a foremost expert on the subject.

With current patches available through Windows Update, it does appear the current version of Connector software is compatible with XP x64 using this installation command.

My suggestion, any POS will do so long as it only has one hard drive... running more than one (I am and don't follow my own advice) can be a catalyst for data corruption until the drive extender software is updated at Power Pack 1 release.

I got a new motherboard, so all is well. WHS is doing well with almost 5 TB of storage ;)

5TB 8O

I need to find some new work so I can get some more drives... I'm running 2x 500GB IDE and 2x 74GB SATA Raptors in my WHS ... though 1.1TB is about plenty for my own storage needs; but I won't be judgmental about the porn stock of others

Oh, that backplane is a nice idea, I have two of my drives stuffed in the 3.5" floppy bays in my Lian-Li case but because of the design, the floppy bay covers will not snap into place to hide them with hard drives installed in those spots.

To not go way to off-topic in this thread I have decided to answer to Evaders´ post here.

Time to upgrade your computer Eagle? :)

I´m on my way now soon:
http://cgi.ebay.de/AMD64-X2-DUAL-CORE-3 ... dZViewItem

That system isn´t the non-plus ultra nor is the graphics card up to date, but it suits me for playing BF1942 and Rebellion. And for those two games it´s even two overdimensioned. :)

Yea the integrated graphics aren't going to do you well for any modern games. But it can play what you want there.

If I did the conversion right (in Google):
109.90 Euros = 169.32 U.S. dollars
That isn't bad.. but you're buying generation old technology. It's probably the cheapest dual core.

I don't know the prices where you are (with VAX and such), but I would prefer an Intel system for that money. And not buy on Ebay.

Tech Report's Econobox
http://www.techreport.com/articles.x/14610/2

Processor Intel Pentium E2180 $69.99
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L $89.99
Memory 2GB Kingston DDR2-800 $38.99
Graphics Integrated

Total price - $200 = 129.81 Euros
If you're overclocking to get better performance, Intel blows away the AMD chips.

I don´t need the most modern machine for my purposes and usage. I also asked a mate of myne who is on track with all those modern hardware aso and he also suggested to rather buy everything separated, because he believed it would be much cheaper than. But he totally forgot about the fact that you also would have to pay the shipment for evey single item which you would have to buy in several shops. It´s not that I feel that Intel has bad processors but I rather do prefer AMD for several reasons. ;)

Intel has chips to match every one of AMD's prices for better performance. And they still have the high-end chips and the better technology manufacturing - 45nm. So for this generation of chips, Intel has won. In the next year, who knows?

Ironically, AMD/ATI just turned over Nvidia's cards with the release of the HD 4850/4870 versus Nvidia's GTX 260/280. They are priced well below Nvidia's initial price points and perform just as well. Nvidia had to lower their prices really quickly to stay in the game.

I'm not a fanboy for any one company, but buying now.. I would pick the one that gives me the best performance for the price. Not saying AMD is bad either. But get their Black Edition CPU and you'll overclock fine too :)
