Oh, that backplane is a nice idea, I have two of my drives stuffed in the 3.5" floppy bays in my Lian-Li case but because of the design, the floppy bay covers will not snap into place to hide them with hard drives installed in those spots.

To not go way to off-topic in this thread I have decided to answer to Evaders´ post here.

Time to upgrade your computer Eagle? :)

I´m on my way now soon:

http://cgi.ebay.de/AMD64-X2-DUAL-CORE-3 ... dZViewItem

That system isn´t the non-plus ultra nor is the graphics card up to date, but it suits me for playing BF1942 and Rebellion. And for those two games it´s even two overdimensioned. :)

Yea the integrated graphics aren't going to do you well for any modern games. But it can play what you want there.

If I did the conversion right (in Google):

109.90 Euros = 169.32 U.S. dollars

That isn't bad.. but you're buying generation old technology. It's probably the cheapest dual core.

I don't know the prices where you are (with VAX and such), but I would prefer an Intel system for that money. And not buy on Ebay.

Tech Report's Econobox

http://www.techreport.com/articles.x/14610/2

Processor Intel Pentium E2180 $69.99

Motherboard Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L $89.99

Memory 2GB Kingston DDR2-800 $38.99

Graphics Integrated

Total price - $200 = 129.81 Euros

If you're overclocking to get better performance, Intel blows away the AMD chips.

I don´t need the most modern machine for my purposes and usage. I also asked a mate of myne who is on track with all those modern hardware aso and he also suggested to rather buy everything separated, because he believed it would be much cheaper than. But he totally forgot about the fact that you also would have to pay the shipment for evey single item which you would have to buy in several shops. It´s not that I feel that Intel has bad processors but I rather do prefer AMD for several reasons. ;)

Who cares at all?!

Intel has chips to match every one of AMD's prices for better performance. And they still have the high-end chips and the better technology manufacturing - 45nm. So for this generation of chips, Intel has won. In the next year, who knows?

Ironically, AMD/ATI just turned over Nvidia's cards with the release of the HD 4850/4870 versus Nvidia's GTX 260/280. They are priced well below Nvidia's initial price points and perform just as well. Nvidia had to lower their prices really quickly to stay in the game.

I'm not a fanboy for any one company, but buying now.. I would pick the one that gives me the best performance for the price. Not saying AMD is bad either. But get their Black Edition CPU and you'll overclock fine too :)

I have a Q6600 myself and I'm very fond of it. It's a perfect toy, especially for a developer :)

It's true that AMD/ATI have better brice/performance than NVIDIA cards, but their drivers on non-windows platforms are terrible (although getting better). This doesn't concern majority of people,

but if you want (or must have) a bit more exotic system it's much safer with NVIDIA.

You've never heard of TheOnion?

Yes it is a parody... but so well done. They really have a great production crew

As soon as I clicked the link, I said "It's the Onion! "

Then I understood LLF's confusion, and saw E's post.

Most Europeans and Non-Americans believe this is a legitimate publication, and not a satirical parody :D

Finally, after years of hard work I am the Supreme Sith Warlord! Muwhahahaha!! What?? What do you mean "there's only two of us"?

LOL!

I've watched the video without sound and in fast forward, stopping by parts where you can see the mac. :D

But actually, I didn't know 'The Onion' either :)

The parody did come up with an interesting thought: the keyboard that we are using is nearly 200 years old! I mean, nobody yet "reformed" it, and most probably no one ever will, since it's global standard. There are some interesting new keyboards on the market though, like the Logitech Wave, that atleast comes up with a new design.

This has slightly to do with computer hardware (that is, its on hardware I own): but mostly a little boredom... some inspiration from fellow laptop users, some internet searching, and a permanent marker...

(Honestly it looks better in this image than in-person. My lines generally suck and the black doesn't fill in the larger areas)

I'm debating what to put on the sides of my Lian-li full tower case. It happens to be this aluminum silver too :)

If you decide to I would recommend making a stencil ;)

I've been hanging on to the idea of making a Case mod where it would look like an AT-AT factory (like in the ROgue Squadron game). The Problem is I can't find how to extract the model from the game for reference.

You should be able to google it and find somebody else who at least got a good screenshot...

It was awhile back, but you guys were talking about keyboards. Did you know the qwerty keyboard was designed to slow down typists? Old-school typewriters couldn't keep up with humans, so they designed the keyboard to deliberately slow us down. Ironic, eh?

Personally, I'm using an Asus dual-core laptop. A year ago, when I was still on my desktop, I had an Asus motherboard; I'd been using that motherboard for five years, and I got it used from a friend who had it for a year. I figured a six-year old motherboard that was still working just fine (even for games!) was good, so I went with the same company for my lappy. In retrospect, it was a good decision. Way better than gambling with Harry Potter magic (in some circles, they are known as Hewlett Packards, but we all know HP uses the Imperius Curse to control their customers).

I"ve got a MVP friend at Microsoft, he tested it for some time now and it seems like it's the best OS since XP.

He can be trusted so, I'll eventually buy Win7 (he stopped me from getting Vista back then :) )
