Oh boy. I just bought Rebellion again, after a year or two of having lost it, and played the Empire on a Medium Difficulty / Huge galaxy game...

'course, I didn't have too many problems - until the end. Leia, Mon Mothma, 90% of the enemy characters captured, all core worlds mine, I was scouring the outer rim for the rebel base. I checked it all, didn't find it on the first pass, so second pass I decided I wasn't taking any chances. I used a fleet of SSDs to melt any habitable planet into slag (General Bombardment) and still didn't find it...so I built a couple of deathstars. I found rebel HQ, it was on a populated planet (when it was neutral) that had 1 energy slot and 1 mining slot to begin with. So I death-zapped it.

I didn't get Luke. So, I quite literally destroyed every single Rebel planet in the outer rim. Which was a PR nightmare. I watched my Maintenence points go from +1100 (2 deathstars, a large capital fleet, TIE Defenders and about 120 regiments of Dark Troopers will do that to you) to -2000 fast. After ripping the outer rim a new one, I still didn't have Luke. So I pressed on - to the core worlds. (I had the game going on Fast to save time, I was annoyed, the Rebellion had been smited except for him). A few had defected so I started with them, then I uh, well how should I put this. I destroyed 3 sectors of space. Maybe more if you count the odds and ends.

I worked may way around in a clockwise motion, starting from the Corellian sector, I spared Coruscant, and blew everything up til I hit Sluis Van. I had my finger on the Destroy System button when Luke tried a kill deathstar mission. This didn't work out well for him, and at day 4000 ( longest game ever, I generally win at no later than 1700) I had finally won.

I didn't think anyone who had been on those planets really cared much.

Oh, and I had something like -8,000 maintenence. The oddest thing happened - in some sectors, killing planets raised my popular support. Some systems declared neutrality before I even got to them, from 100% Rebel. I wasn't amused and still zapped

Phew, mega-block of text. :D

Current game

Day - 3687

Side - Empire

Game - large galaxy, medium difficulty

RebEd Changes - Both sides can make Escort Frigates, as I find it unfair that the Rebels get one of the best low-cost long term vessels in the game. TIE fighter costs cut in half, TIE Defender costs up 15% to even it out a bit.

Current Status of game: Stalemate. Pure and simple. I control the entire core sectors, and a few scattered planets on the outer rim. But every time I take something, they take a planet of mine. So it is back and forth, back and forth. This would not be the case but...

Around day 3000, the Rebels made a daring move against my beloved Yaga Minor shipyards. Thankfully, I knew this ahead of time thanks to a payoff to an informant. Sadly, I knew I did not have enough firepower nearbye to stop them from taking the world. I did, however, have enough to make them pay for it dearly. I called in all nearbye forces (Sector fleets, nearbye Patrol fleets, scattered scout forces, any and all fighers in the sector) and had around 30 vessels Destroyer sized or better, and about 60 support ships. The rebels, however, outgunned me by about 10 heavier vessels, and a lot of smaller ones. I had the starfigther advantage though.

After a long, hard fought battle, the rebels finally mopped up the remnents of my fleet. I did, however, cost them every single one of their larger vessels, most of their fighters, and most of their lighter ships. But it was still a loss. They also took my largest shipyards from me. But the worst part was I now had no way to defend two of my sectors, and no shipyards bnearbye to replace said fleet losses.

Thus began a quick and bloody blitzkrieg into enemy territory. One designed to wipe out any remaining forces (there were a lot) and ruin their infrastructure. And it almsot worked. I decimated their warlfleets, but attrition pretty much ground my forces down to barebones defence groups. I recall all fleets to my remaining shipyards to repair, and begin a fast production of smaller vessels to fill out my fleets until I have the time to build up a new Warfleet.

Sadly, this allows the rebels to do the same thing, and now we have a stalemate. Our forces are still the same size (I think) But they keep on attacking, and whittling away at my fleets. amazingly, the AI is relying heavily on cheaper, faster built vessles which is quickly becoming a problem. For every Destroyer I build, they pump out 5-6 smaller ships. Thankfully, TIE fighters are easy to replace, as I rely heavily on the Interceptor rather than the Defender.

And so, I trade blows with the rebellion, grinding it out while my shipyards at Tralus put together a new attack fleet meant to begin the hunt for the rebel headquarters. Once that is done, I can begin a slow, methodical war of world hopping, taking them apart one world at a time. Or at least, that is the plan.

I once knew a great man. Nothing got to him, and he always smiled. May he forever rest in peace, knowing fully well that his freinds shall remember him.

I wanted to see how big other people have made their fleets. I've been playing a rebel campaign recently, and decided to see if there was an inbuilt limit to the number of ships I could build in a fleet, like how Star Craft or War Craft limit the number of units you can build. I ended up with every planet colonised and a fleet of about 950 ships. I was ondering if anyone else has hit a limit in the game, or how big others' fleets have gotten by the end of the game.
