  1. not really, no, but the fire rates are fast enough, and usually synced enough that the effect is the same. most of the guns on one ISD, for example, will all fire at the same time, especilly the bigger ones, as long as they are within range. as for bombers, i think you have to micro-manage them to get them to do repeated coordinated bombing runs, because after the first run, they break formation and do their own thing.
  2. ah, ground was great if you were lvl 90 and good at pvp. huge battles almost every night, and i was in the biggest pvp guild on the server, so we always had stuff to do. i was good in space until just after nge came out, then i lost interest and fell way behind. i actually just activated my account again, just to check it out. havent been on yet, but hopefully most of my guild is still around.
  3. bah, personally im not a fan of jedi-based anything. when i did play after nge, i always played as an imperial officer. i was the best on bria in pvp for a few months, then beastmaster came out and i got my ass handed to me by a BH and his pokemon, and thay was the end of it.
  4. apart from the time period, it sounds just about like pre-nge SWG. im not bitter. really.
  5. i have no idea anymore. i dont mod much myself. and it would appear the relic forums for hw2 are no more, or at least i cant find them. EJ should know though, and i think he might have a tutorial or be willing to give you some help.
  6. well, i built my system about about 4 years ago, and its still great for gaming. some of the newer stuff coming out i have to tune down a lot, like crysis, but for the most part, its great. i would expect that a good new system built now should be no different. and, if you build it with the m9a2 platinum mobo, it leaves a lot of room for expansion and upgrades later on if you find you want more out of it. the Phenom processors are a new line, and so higher and better performance will be coming out for the quad cores soon. i would say its a great investment, and a great price. i woudnt expect to have to get a whole new system for another 5-8 years at least, barring some revolutionary breakthrough.
  7. sounds like either a hardware issue, or your missing a critical windows component. just for giggles, try updating directx to the latest version (9.0c nov. 2007 i think is the latest). if your overclocking anything, set it back to default speeds and try it again. what OS are you using, and what hardware?
  8. you mean a package deal with 4 cards? no one offers one. i would just recommend getting a mobo that supports 4 so you can upgrade later if you want to. i priced a system out similar to that but with 4 hd3870, it was $3200. the 790fx chipset is pretty much king of the hill right now. and 2 3850's still beats out 2 8600's
  9. very nice, the 790x chipset is great, and very low power consumption as well. you may see if you can find a board that support 4x crossfire, so you can upgrade later. it may only be the 790fx boards that do support it, but that is what makes crossfire better than sli. 2 hd3850's is great, 4 is better. when you do put all this together, make sure you get a 64-bit operating system, or you'll waste all that cpu power. XP x64 is the best, but you wont have any issues at all with vista 64 if you prefer it. edit: i just looked at the msi k9a2 platinum, and it does support 4x crossfire, its the 790fx chipset. $170
  10. its not bad, but you will need a larger power supply than that. on a system like that, i wouldnt go below 800w. thats the only critical problem youve got there. personal preference and experience would tell me to urge you to go with an AMD cpu instead. the athlon x2's are great chips, or if you really want the best, there's the AMD Phenom quad core that just came out, but it would likely put you overbudget. 2gb ram is also a little weak, but not a show-stopper.
  11. at this point, judging how power hungry gravity manipulation would be is nothing less than ridiculous, because even in this era of quantum physics and budding teleportation technology, we have no idea what gravity actually is. all we have is a completely unproven theory about sub-atomic particles called gravitons, that we cant even prove exist. and its quite apparent that generating gravity requires no electrical power, since a completely uncharged and inert piece of space rock has its own gravitational pull. at this point, conjecture about plausible gravitational manipulation is about as accurate and informed as Viking shipwrights engineering a nuclear submarine.
  12. its not just intelligence i think, its any machine that mimics life, which would be any machine that moved on its own. they dont ever seem to find clothing, simple tools, or buildings to be abominations, but as soon as a non-organic material moves, its all hellfire and brimstone upon thee.
  13. as for power generation, they dont require any. they just have to keep their organisms fed. living things generate their own power so long as they are sustained. as for realspace movement, its described (although not in much detail) in one of the books, dont remember which. basically, the dovin basals "grab" on to a stellar object larger than the ship, or repel from an object larger than the ship. apparently, there is no limit to the range of this ability. i would wholeheartedly agree, however, that this sort of gravity manipulation is completely fantastic in every respect. way beyond the idea of hyperspace travel. for the weapons, the plasma cannons are NOT the volcano guns. they are differentiated sporadically in the books, but they are separate. the plasma is used as a laser analogue, no mass, just energy, while the volcano gun thing is a missile analogue, and is in fact just superheated rock. i think the reason they dont use dovin basals for weaponry in most cases is highlighted in the numerous accounts of tech. ships tiring them when all they have to do is provide shielding and maneuvering. adding more stress to their regular workout would be downright stupid. as for the organisms, i dont really see how they could have possibly begun any sort of genetic engineering without starting with technology to engineer their original bio-tools.
