  1. My approach is a combination of some of these. (iI mostly play Reb) Initially, I build Corellian Corvettes (up to year about 180 - 200), then in every system with 3 or more shipyards I build Escort Carriers, and the rest (1 or 2 shipyards) build X-wings. I also avoid fleet combat (if possible) and conserve strength. Then I build Nebulon-B s till I have 6-8 of them and then add a Mon Cal cruiser, and repeat, filling with X-wings. As soon as available I add an interdictor. When B-wings become available, I switch all fighter production to this form (except for defence where A-wings are supreme). Even SSD-equipped fleets crumble before this combination.
  2. Talking of characters on missions, I have found that by far the best role for Han Solo is Recruiting. He's brilliant at it, especially on Yavin. But, beware, as the Empire often attack there early on in the game. If so you'd best skedaddle pronto! I've also found that, if the Empire "visit" Yavin early on and find nothing, they NEVER return there in the game. This is useful if Yavin has good resources, and the system can quickly become a powerhouse, relatively safely. Anyone else find this?
  3. I agree with Starlightcoast. What I have obseved is that an assault with fewer troop units than exist on the target planet invariably fails (as one would expect). Thus, to defend a system with just two troops units leaves the planet vulnerable. I use the guide of the number to keep a system under control (usually minimum 6 ) and add one unit, usually defeats a troop assault.
  4. Just picked up on this discussion. My strategy relies on simplicity, and cost-effectiveness. So, I load X-wings into escort carriers (very cheap & quick) and build a fleet around 6 or 7 carriers, and later on add a Mon Cal cruiser. Try this, as it adds huge firepower, even against major units. If I suspect they have many major units I add B-wings as soon as available (I also assign maximum resources to ship research, ie Wedge, Ackbar and Tallon, as soon as I can.

  6. Very cool, and confirms what I've suspected. However, very early on one can get by with a field generator only, till you get started. What is critical is to have troops (and fighters, if possible) on your specialized planet, because if you lose it, it can cripple you at a critical stage. The idea of a General there is one I shall try soon. Thanks. I tend to build the defenses quickly, while the construction yards (or whatever) and being built. This is worth the extra effort. For construction specialisation, I often use the nearest rim system, and usually escape the enemy's attention longer.
