  1. Thanks for answering, everybody has a valid opinion and I like hearing them. I just wanted to come back to one point. Anakin killing the Jedi childern in the attack on the temple. Sure, he needed to do it, but the 'reasons' for killing them are fuzzy. Remember, up to the beginning of this movie, the Jedi are protectors of the weak and all that. Anakin still saw himself becoming one of them, even if he believed he was destined to be the greatest of the Jedi. He had his issues with the Jedi Council, but not with the majority of the Jedi order itself. Then comes the confrontation between Mace Windu and Palpatine that is the turning point for Anakin. Sure, that situation allows him to disarm (or is it dis-hand?) Windu, but does it turn him into to a killer of children in that instant also? After all, by his training up to this point, protecting people has been his role. Why does he decide, within hours at most, that even Jedi children are a threat to him and need to be destroyed? Does the novel explain this a little more? I have not gotten a chance to pick it up yet, but will soon. The only thing I can think of at this point is that somehow Palpatine was able to brainwash Anakin into becoming a Jedi killer the same way the Clonetroopers were implanted with Order 66. Any insight that you folks what to share?
  2. Hi Folks. Been a while since I spoke up in the forums here but saw EPIII the other night and just wanted to give a couple of my own opinions. I know other people have started their own threads on this as well, but just had things running around in head and needed to get them out. Overall I thought the movie was rather good, but not great. I had tried to avoid spoilers as much as possible, but you can’t help but learn some of the details. But I managed to avoid a good bit of knowledge, so I had a number of surprises in how things happened. Here is how I felt about parts of the movie: Space Battle above Coruscant: A little disappointed. For the most part the battle felt empty. Obi-won and Anakin spend a lot of time flying but not really seeming under threat. Yes, there were clone pilots that were fighting off-screen but more risk to the Jedi would have been better. I do like how easily Anakin shakes the missiles, showing his skill as a pilot, where Obi-won has more trouble. A larger view of the overall battle would have been nice too. Would have given you more of an impression that this was major event, unless you had seen the cartoon Clone Wars, you just get the impression there are a few ships there. As it was, much of the sequence seems to have been simply to show off special effects. Including the ‘crashing’ of the ship at end of that battle. Fight with Count Dooku: Not too bad actually. I would have liked Dooku to maybe taunt Anakin a little more. Dooku’s look at Palpatine at the ordering of his death was great. Transitions: For the most part this was done well. The setting of Anakin on the Jedi Council was mostly done well. I did pick up on Anakin complaining that nobody but Jedi Masters sat on the Council, but I remembered a reference to a Jedi Knight on the Council back in Episode I. Just another sad example of Lucas rewriting his own stories after the fact. I can only guess he was thinking to use it as a plot device to give Anakin another reason to turn against the Jedi. The scenes with Anakin and Padme were much smoother than in Episode II, so I won’t complain about them. A better sense of the passing of time would have been nice, even if it was dropped hints in the dialogue. The Turning of Anakin: Like some other reviews I have seen, I feel it happened a little too quickly and completely. Palpatine wisely used Anakin’s dissatisfaction with the Jedi training process and the threat to Padme as lures to his side, but the key point was the confrontation with Mace Windu. I think that if Mace had not started that final attack to kill Palpatine, but stepped back and said, “Anakin, you are right. Killing him is not the Jedi way.â€
  3. Short and simple question... Is a higher rating better? Playing with some ideas for a personal TC, and going to have a pair of 'compeating' ship designs. Two shipyards are asked to build a new cruiser design. One goes for a heavy duty 'slugger; style. Can stand in combat for a long time, heavy sheilds and armor, but slow to repair after the battle. The other goes for a 'strike' vessel, weaker shields and armor, but lots of weapons to deliver a punishing blow. Also designed for quick repair after the battle to get the ship back in action. I figure that with Shield and Weapon Recharge rates, higher is better and just wondering if damage control works the same way.
  4. Okay, this is is a question and a bit of rant. I seem to be very good at shooting myself in the foot when playing the Imperials. Somehow I always end up messing up with mines and refinerys so that at around turn 500 or so I find myself all of sudden out of materials to build with. In my latest game I was so out of wack that by the time I was able to recover on resourses the rebels were able to mount a series of assults and basiclly took most of a sector away from me in about 50 days. I don't seem to have a problem when I play the Rebels so not sure what I am doing wrong. My question is this, it is worth it to let your protocol droid/agent manage certain things like resourses? Does it do a half-way decent job? Or would I be better off just taking care of things on my own? Thanks
  5. Has anybody found a way to export the orginial models out of the game? In thinking about there seem to be certain ship slots for 'starting' ships, I wanted to move a couple models around to save them for ships that are being 'researched'. Thanks
  6. Hey folks. I have been working a few of my own cards and have run into some problems with limits on the name and description on the cards. I have looked around and found a patch that The_Mask put out to fix this problem for character cards, but it does not seem to work for ship cards. Does anybody know of a similar fix for ship cards? Thanks
  7. Thanks Admirial. I will probably play with it some more once I finish my current game. It is only the third game I have played (just aquired the game). Large galaxy, med setting, playing the Imps. The Rebels have been pretty darn successful at taking one planet in a core sector and having most of the netural planets decide to join right then and there. Right now, they have about 3 times the number of planets as I do. But I have been on a major sabotage run taking out their various contruction, training and shipyard facilities. I am hoping to slow them down until I can build up some Rim sectors and take back the offensive.
  8. Am I right in thinking that Ship Cards (in RebED) and the tactical models are not part of the same package? I have tried to import a couple ship cards using RedED and I seem to keep ending up with that 'default' tactical model. So I assume I need to import a new ship model seperately. Or am I doing something wrong with RedED? Also, in reading the forums, I came across a question. It was stated in several places that Rebellion seems to have a problem with both sides having the same ship model. Like if I set the Corellian Corvette to be built by both sides, and then we both show up with Corvettes at a fight, will the game handle it okay? Or is this only a problem with 'new' ship models? Thanks much.
  9. As an American looking in from across the way, I can see good and bad in the whole EU idea. Personally I think the good part comes from the common currency. I beleive it will help improve trade across national borders and hopefully help move European countries to a move common and stable economic status. Otherwise, I don't see any sense in trying to lessen the otherwise patriotic differences the different countries have. I just don't think it will work. Even in the US, where we have been one countries for over 200 years, at time the regional patriotism can be as fierce as any national pride we might have. On a side note about the other areas of the world following the example of the EU. I heard several years ago about talks to form an Africian Union. What got me to wondering was this. The European Union has a common currency named the Euro. So what would be common currency of the Africian Union? The Afro? No offense meant. Just a random thought from a twisted mind...
  10. In the Episode II section of cards for RebED, there is a link for a Republic Cruiser. But the link to the card itself is bad. Is there a card available for the Republic Cruiser?
  11. Hi folks, I am looking to play around with the line-up of the ships on my games and looking for good ship cards. I know there are plenty of cards out there, but looking for some that good selections as far as image and game play balance. I was not looking to do a TC at this point, so if people could give me a couple ideas on what some good options are that would fit well with an otherwise un-modded game. Thanks a bunch.
  12. Just a couple questions about how ships are handled in the game and with RedED. First, from what I see, it looks like each side only has about 15 ships allowed. Is this a limitation in the game or with RebED? Also, I am curious about the checkbox for Alliance/Empire selection. Can a ship be in the Empire side of the RedED box, be checked for both sides and be built by the Alliance? I am hoping to set a few common ships on both sides, then start making the different ships on each side, mostly as researched vessels. Thanks for any thoughts you can give me on this.
  13. Greetings folks. SWR newbie here posting for the first time. I had been eyeing the game for a couple years now but hesitant to buy it because the price never seemed to come down. Then I found this site a month or so ago and finally bought the game. Still just started playing, and have been limited in time to play but working on my second game now. But I got to wondering after reading the forums here some. What is the fastest game you folks have played in terms of game time? My first game was as the Rebel Alliance, small galaxy, easy game. (After all, I was just trying to get a feel for it.) I had been working on Luke's force skills when he went off on his Dagaobgh (sp?) training mission. I was still in the process of exploring the Outer Rim and establishing bases and facilities when Luke came back. On about his second or third mission back, he was captured by Vader and taken to Coursant. I was debating on how to mount a rescue mission to get him back when he arrives there. Well, the "Last Battle" senernio apparently kicked in and Luke ends up capturing both Vader and the Emperor in one sweep. So I jump on the opportunity and grab every ship I can and load up for an assult on Coursant. Once I arrive it is a fairly quick battle to overwheml the defending forces and I win my first game. Total turns elasped, just over 1200. Don't remember exactly, but that is close. Is that a typical experince, do game normally end that early on? Or did I just get lucky? What is the fastest you have ever had a game play out?
