  1. It most likely is a conflict local to your computer. My Rebellion runs flawlessly on XP, no compatibility mode needed... yet I know people who have strugged to get it to work (but all have suceeded). Try booting up with no extra programs running (Start>Run>msconfig... if you need help with this part, holler). It should boot up clean and you can figure out if it is a software issue. Make sure to CTRL+ALT+DEL and remove any extra unecessary programs that msconfig didn't get. If you have spyware or something, make sure you get AdWare and get rid of it. If it still doesn't work, it might be a hardware issue, although with that error message it is unlikely. Just try to install/run it bare bones. If it is a "burned" version, then that could be the cause, but yours seems to be an actual version so that shouldn't be the cause.
  2. Would simply adjusting your monitor help? You'd have to change it back once you exited, but I had one game where I had to manually center it each time.
  3. Whatever it was , it worked itself out the next day. Curious though.
  4. I think at some point Star Wars will return to the big screen. Forget the VII-IX thing though, the actors are too old (and likely not willing) to continue that story. Start a new triology. About someplace else in the Star Wars universe. Set it 100 years before the current 6-pack... 100 years after, whatever. I mean how many worlds described in the various novels/comic books have we not seen on the big screen? Hundreds... dozens of fascinating places/people. Some will probably say to leave it be, don't destory Star Wars by "Trekifying" it. That's already happened with the prequils/toys/tv specials. What needs to happen is to get a very dedicated team on the job. People who love Star Wars and understand why us fans love Star Wars. Craft some stories, make them interesting, get tons of feedback and take their time. Or better yet, take some of the book series that have been so huge. I haven't read any of them (my sister read all of them) but I hear the Thrawn triology is pretty good. Make each book into a movie. The point is there is plenty of material to continue making Star Wars movies, and the fans to support it. Look at Revenge of the Sith. The third prequel after two pretty coldly received ones (I thought TPM was decent, AOTC wasn't very good IMO but that's not the point). It rakes in 50 MILLION DOLLARS on its first day, shattering previous records for not only a Star Wars movie, but ANY movie. People love these things and will continue to support them, as long as they stay decent. I was born too late to be an original fan of the original series, but I recognize how big of an impact they had. My sister got me hooked on Star Wars, she was a big fan of them and bought the boxed Speical Edition set in 1997. I remember watching those things over and over again, never getting tired of them. I didn't even see TPM in theaters (my sister camped out for a week), AOTC I saw a week after it came out, but I was at the midnight showing of ROTS (completely worth it!). Even though I've kind of jumped on the bandwagon so to speak, I still think the originals are on a different level than the new ones (maybe not so much with ROTJ). They'll never be surpassed in the minds of many people, and probably mine too. They are what started everything, they've achieved almost a god-like status that cannot be easily reproduced. What were we talking about? Oh yeah, more movies. I think they'll be another triology, about a topic completely different than the "Skywalker" line. 10-15 years down the road maybe a project will pick up. It will be released and people will realize that Star Wars is much more than just the originals. We can maybe then settle down and get ready for a triology or two more.
  5. ...just wanted to give the final update. Time Taken: 3942 days Planets 100% Loyal (out of 100): 95 Planets Controlled: 100 Number of planets I controlled before catching Vader: 100 Ending movie was pretty good, I was hoping for a little more. Exactly like the Imperial victory movie... fleet zips in, blows up the other, zips out. Oh well, I was too happy to care. Thanks for helping me through it, I probably would have given up.
  6. Hehe, I did that once - shoved Palpi and Darth in a damaged Medium Transport (damaged hyperdrive), and kept jumping him all over the galaxy. In the end, I forgot to keep an eye on it, so it was orbiting a nuetral planet when an ISD dropped out of hyperspace and scrapted it Haha yes, I'm afraid something like that will happen, so I'm sending it between two planets I have control over and feel are defended pretty well. At this point in the game, the Empire is so depleted I don't even think they have any fleets left. I've destroyed just about every one that's crossed my path.
  7. Yeesh, and here I was bragging to my friend a couple of years ago because I finished in 1148 days while his best was in the 1300s. Please enlighten me, how the heck do you finish that quickly?
  8. On the subject of holding prisioners... my tactic is just to put them in a ship with a very SLOW hyperdrive rating and send them from one extreme side of the galaxy to the other. That's what I am doing in my current game with the Emperor... I'm afraid if I try to hold him on a planet or on ship or something he'll escape since I'm pretty terrible at stuff like that.
  9. Haha yeah, I enjoyed the part when the ship stops to blow up the Empire's logo on that one building. It's like "yeah, right on!". Anywho, now I've secured all core systems with two GenCore II's and 100% loyalty, and now am starting to go system by system to take the outer rim. I have about 7 people with diplomacy ratings over 200 so it's easy to get people on my side. There was topic somewhere about your longest game, and well, I'm approaching day 3000. Just have to get Vader to win... might be 20 more days, might be 2000. Coruscant does look good in red though, doesn't it?
  10. Wohoo! I finally took Coruscant! I built 5 Mon Calamari Cruisers and sent them to that fleet... did the trick. Took out the LNR, and two GenCores, and all 9 trooper units in one blow. Finally got to see the really cool movie of the Alliance taking over Coruscant. And, I caught the Emperor, so now all I have to do his protect him and Coruscant and get Vader.
  11. Don't know what's going on, but the forums won't load in Firefox today for me. Just asked a friend and he says the same (both on 1.0.1). This is curious because yesterday and the day before I was using FireFox (as usual) and it worked. Today, not so much. Strange thing is they load in IE just fine... anyways, since someone else I know is having the same issues, I was wondering if something changed/happened today.
  12. Yup. Would that have anything to do with the repeated failures? That's what I was thinking, but I guess I got a little desperate. I will try that. Not very optimistic about my chances, but I haven't tried just taking out a stroomtrooper unit yet. Tried to abduct the general... and that failed; of course. Every planet in that sector is mine 100% except for Coruscant. I'm working with another fleet in that sector on the far right (close to the outer rim Yavin one), but I have 23/30 major planets. Haven't found them in the rim yet, but only have explored two of those. Yeah, my fleet probably sucks. I do have room (and have filled it) for 32 fighters and 72 troops, if that means anything. I will try loading up on Y-Wings... I think I have a pretty even distribution of X/Y/B so maybe all Ys would help (I have no clue on the difference). Some capital ships with better bombardment might help as well. I think I said this, but that have a LNR thing that shoots back, so I get a ship blown up everytime I try something. Sigh. Thanks for all the help. I'll most likely be back on this thread to share more frustrations at my attempt to win.
  13. One hundred and twenty five infiltration units. 125. 25 to perform the mission, the other 100 as decoys. Fails quickly... 23 total units return from Coruscant. Wohoo. About to throw the CD in the trash.
  14. Yes, problem is ship research really only has come up with the B-Wing and CC whatever (anti-hyperspace thing) and I don't know if I have the firepower. My initial estimates were low, I have 15 Gunships and about 45 ships in total but it cannot break the shields. I thought maybe since we were hovering overhead they were on super alert or something, so I went to a nearby planet and launched missions from there. Nothing works. I seriously don't know what the heck is going on... but its preventing me from winning the game. The "Decoy/Characters on a Mission" thread recently bumped up has some good info that I will try to put into use. I didn't know a General would help things that much. Veers is commanding 9 Stormtrooper units on the surface (my estimates are terrible). So, that must be a pretty hard wall to break huh? I've just never used sabotage/espiogne missions very much. Meanwhile the Empire has just about blown up anything they wanted. I should probably get better at this task. I just don't know enough... like espiogning (sp) your own planet to see if any enemies are on the way... who knew?
  15. Yes, I have been trying Luke and Chewie. They've been foiled about ten times, now Luke is a friggin Jedi Master, and he still can't take down anything. I'll try a mission with him a Chewie with a few decoys... do that about ten times, see if anything happens. **EDIT** 0-for-10. Starting to tick me off. Luke confronted the Emperor five more times, all his missions got foiled but he was never captured. Chewie got captured on the 7th one. Chewie's Combant and Espinoge ratings were both above 180... about to pull my hair out.
