  1. I was playing the game a bit and then I got a rather odd notion, for an imperial officer. I decided to attack Coruscant with a deathstar. Now there's just a neutral pile of space junk. Can the rebs still capture this? If not how are they going to win the game? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. -
  2. Damn I was hoping I just missed the animation . It must be in there somewhere, everything else that involves the tactical window is. I'm looking through the file again and I'm starting to think that the laser animation is just a point that gets repeated along the line of the laser trajectory. I'm gonna mess around with the animation file and see what happens. (I'm gonna put a few more dots in the animation file and see if I end up with multiple laser blasts) If it works out Ill let you know. My modeling is at a standstill at the moment anyway, I can't get a registration code for GMAX. Those guys just don't reply to that registration form. Maybe it's a hotmail prob. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The problem with designing something completley foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of a complete fool.
  3. I kinda like the snow troopers, 1: Because they look a bit cooler than regular stormies (no, it's not meant to be a pun and a horrible one at that) 2: Because they're the few stormies that actually kick some ass, they wipe that frosty rebel base of the map in short order. Most of the other stormies are bungling idiots who can't control some furry muppets. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nursie: Another good idea. You're so clever today, you'd better make sure your foot doesn't fall off. Queenie: Is that what happens when you have good ideas? Your foot falls off. Nursie: Oh yes! My brother had this brilliant idea of cutting his toenails with a scythe, and his foot fell off!
  4. Has anybody found which part of tactical.dll houses the laser animations? I'm guessing it's somewhere in the 303 folder, in the 3000 range. But all I find there is explosions, and ion effects on the hull. Not the shots themselves. I want to see if these animations can be edited Im getting kind sick of these rather sad blips of laser fire. I want to light up the sky with green death, not just these single blips. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Look, said Arthur, "would it save you a lot of time if I just gave up and went mad now?"
  5. Alright thanks for the explanation Mask. That might indeed be a lot shorter, but with me being me and thus being as single minded as a rabid, drug crazed pitbull with dependency issues have already finished the imperial side the old fashioned way. I'm good with that kind of simple grunt work. I just swich my mind to a some other more entertaining thoughts and my body will just go on typing/writing. (I learned this in classes where I was bored beyond belief but still had to take notes) Ill give it a try, providing I can find the programs but that shouldn't be to much of a problem. Could be a while before I figure out how to do all that correctly. (the new school year has started ) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In fact, no gods anywhere play chess. They prefer simple, vicious games, where you Do Not Achieve Transcendence but Go Straight to Oblivion; a key to the understanding of all religion is that a god's idea of amusement is Snakes and Ladders with greased rungs[/img]
  6. Sadly that doesn't work when you take a screenshot with print screen, you get a dark blob in paint wher your model is supposed to be. I've found one program that takes good screenshots but it's not free and if you use it without a licence it puts some text in the middle of the screen. Mod update: finished 7 imperial ships, all working fine. (eta for the rest, a week? provided the weather stays crappy, and no hangover related incidents ) A new weird thing has popped up the other units in the strikegroup get moved tot the far site of the tactical box. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------What human beings are able to do--we arrive in new territories and we colonize this entire world. We can live in the tundra, we can live in the Gobi Desert, we can even contrive to live in New York, for heaven's sake, because what we do is when we arrive somewhere, and let's say, again, we arrive somewhere much colder, instead of having to wait generations or--while our natural selection favors genes that have got a thicker coat, we see an animal that has already got a thicker coat, we say, we'll have it off him!
  7. Nevermind, I figured it out, D'oh I should have used paint the first try whoops. Ill let you know how it works out. First Ill try to make a complete Carrak cruiser and post a screenshot . (btw how do I take a screen shot in rebellion.) update: So far so good, I've managed to skin both a stargal, and a carrak cruiser, but for some reason certain parts of the ship are not textured whilst the other 20 odd something textures are, but I'm sure I can fix it. update2: Well I fixed the missing textures part, but sadly the game starts to get unstable after adding the textures, damn I should have checked that sooner. It probably has something to do with the fact that each model (close, medium, far) needs it's own texture. Damn that means about 3 times the work load. hmmm. 29 ships, times 3 times 20 that's about 1740 separate bmp I need to edit. Yarrgg I think I'm gonna spend some time on writing a proggy that can do this in batches. Update3: Yup that fixed it it was indeed the model, separate textures problem. And I've just thought of a bit of a short cut in the edeting part. That means just 560 separate bmp's still alot but do-able. And those fully textured models look great. update4: Things seem to be going fine, I've replaced four models , they work fine. I've cut the time down to half an hour per model, that includes ripping, changing the textures, binning them, placeing them in rebellion, fixing any problems and a small test run. The tactical.dll file is growing fast, it's already 10 mb, I hope this doesn't become a problem. I'm going to add some more ships and do a stress test soon. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.
  8. The last time I was here I was replacing the original rebellion models with some better XWA ones, but then everybody hit a small snag with the texturing of the models. Since I have zero edeting skills I decided to wait till somebody else fixed it. Then I ofcourse forgot all about it for six months due to school, the important buisness of vacation. And Now I see that the texture problem has been solved, kuddos to everybody who worked on that project. Well on to my problem, I've managed to put another test model into the game (carrak-cruiser). And I've managed to put on 10 out of 21 seperate tectures onto that model (got tired). And the textures work fine, they apear in the right place (bridge, engine, etc). But the colors are all screwed up. I've tried pasting the texture bmp onto the template (fighters template 128), But as soon as I convert the colors get al screwed up. Maybe I'm just using the wrong program, mask what program do you use? Oh and also those new models look great! P.S hello to everybody. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The difference between us and a computer is that, the computer is blindingly stupid, but it is capable of being stupid many, many million times a second
  9. Moo is not based on any known movie or series, it's an independent series. it's also one of my all time favorite games, yes even above rebellion. In the previous games you basically start on a single planet and from there on counquer the entire galaxy, become president of the senate or destroy some ultimate evil elder race. In order to achieve any of these goals you have to, colonize new worlds, research new techs, design your ships, use diplomacy and spying to be victorious. Both tactical and stratagy is turnbased and are quite fun. In the second game there where some 8 or 10 races. All having their own strengths and weaknesses. Not to mention that you can create your own race. Plus techologies are really diverse in this game from the lowly laser tot the stellar coverter. (deathstar eat your hart out). Many a planet has been shot to pieces thanks to this gadget. The third installment of this most excellent series is promising to be even more complex, with 16 races devided into a couple of sub-catagories, Humanoid, Saurian, ect. And these guys can have rebellions and split into little empires, which have the same options as the original ones. Anyway I could probably talk about this for hours, It’s best if you check out (http://www.orionsector.com, or http://apolyton.net/moo3/. It’s been delayed for ages, but it looks like a winner. Hmm, games that last weeks, fleet battles with 100’s of ships, disgnable craft from missles to Levithans (1-2 km ships), 100’s of techs, tactical groundbattles, senate politics/backstabing (Don’t like nukes, ban em!) and the list goes on and on. *drools* The game should be modablem. all values are stored in some kind of spread-sheat format and the moddels can be edited with 3d max, not to sure about that last part thoug. *hell it should be easier than Reb ,right Sorry about the comercial, but both Moo’s are my all time fav games. I still get a chuckle when It asks for DirectX 2. Oh and Heagemonia is nothing like homeworld. It’s pretty, but tactics are non-existant in this game. When you only have fighers build fighters, when you develop cruisers just build cruisers and finally once you develop battle ships, your fleets will consist of nothing but giant battleships and you’ll send them in straight lines at your targets. Plus the 2 campaigns merge after four missions and from thereon are exactly the same. But it does look insanly good for a RTS though. Wreckage and missles flying about in a beautifull light show. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The bigger they are, the harder they fall. They punch, kick and choke harder too.
  10. **** ---- Waring based on nothing buy my opnion and it does not have any merrit outside my skull. ---- **** Well according to Lucas Jar jar would make an exellent addition to the SW universe, so I don't value his oppinion that much. But I guess it's just human nature, from the earliest tales their have always be some sort of ulitmate evil, from dragons to suncrushers. This does not mean thats this makes a good story or plot, it makes it entertaining to the masses. It's like comparing Brittney to Bach and sayig "hey it's both music". (must have something to do with our evoltion from prey animals) Good writers are able to shift the focus of these almighty weapons to the charchters, the weapons can still be in there but are not obscuring everything else. But this does not mean all the other books are crappy books by any standards. These books have been creeated to entertain, and entertain they do. But they don't make you think or care about any of the people in them after you close the book. Unless of course you are a true Starwars fan. But there is so much great literature both old and new in the world to enjoy, that it's a waste of time to read books like those written by KJA unless you truly and enjoy the universe. Oh and on a side note, I did an amazon search on KJA and found about 93 books, of which there where at least 70 in the SW-universe.(The rest was dune and X-files) Exluding doubles and hard/cover this still leaves about 40-50 books. Does this strike anybody else as a bit much, Since Lucas only started to aprove Sw books in the early 90's. There are great writers who never write more than 10 books in their entire live. And yet KJA manages to do this in less then a decade. Hmm "Quality or Quantity" anyone? (which btw is also the title of a kickass Bad religion song. ) Oh and on a side note I never was a big fan of deathstars .(It seemed like a waste of resources why build one station when you can also build 10 fleets that can wreak havock on 10 different planets at a time) But at least it was less ludicrous that the suncrusher, because it took the infrastructure of the whole empire to construct these blasted things, not to mention the gazillion troopers, techs and officers. The suncrusher on the otherhand can be be piloted by a hand full of people, is impervious to TL and can fly straight thtough the superstructure of ships and can come out the otherside without problems. And on a side note they can blow up suns, and withstand a blast that rips appart planets. Not to sure about that last part. At this point I was already searching for a flamable porcupine to hit KJA with. Well I'm of to the dentist Just enjoy whatever you are reading be it a television guide, KJA or Shaw. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you believe in telekinesis, raise my hands. **** ---- Waring based on nothing buy my opnion and it does not have any merrit outside my skull. ---- ****
  11. It was "Jedi Search, by Kevin J Anderson" First off, I must say that I rarely read science fiction I generally read along the lines of Victor Hugo or E. M Dostojewsky. But I had read some S.F before that agreed with me. This was all original S.F things like Niven, Asimov and Herbert. Real writers who create their own universe and place their characters within them. usually I stay the hell away from an already defined universe like SW. But then a good friend ( a friend who usually knows what he's talking about) recommended Zahn, and I was pleasently surprised. Here was a writter who saw the characters from the movies and expanded from there, he matured the characters, but in a way that seemed natural. He created new charcters that had depth and logical goals. After some time I decided that I'd like to read another starwars book. A Kevin J Anderson book. All the original charcters where changed, they became shallow, whinning individuals, it added (to my knowledge) chachters. Like the 1 dimensional megalomanical Daala. And non sensible plot devices like the sun crusher. These where really stupid villans and cheap ways to further the plot, the ones you get in bad movies. During the entire book I generally knew what was going to happen in the next twenty five pages. Books are a pretty personal thing for me, I don't read a story I live it. I'm there when the action is, I'm there when I see chacters display thier emotions, become friends or bitter enemies. It becomes a fantasy world for small amount of time. Keven J anderson's novel was just plain wrong in my eyes. I'm convinced he couldn't create a plausible charcter if he needed it to save his grand mother. I checked a few other books just to make sure, maybe this one was just plain bad, but most lacked any detail. Sure there where some good parts but on the whole it was like sitting trough a bad, bad movie just because you payed money. Not to mention the fact that, Kevin J Anderson seems to think that the sum total of human knowledge is located in his head. I remeber an interview I read a while back. It was about some glaring faults in his newly adopted universe Dune. (I'm noticing a trend here) I think it's a prequel (another trend), anyway there were some things that seemd way out of touch with the universe and the Dune Bible. Remeber the dune bible is a book that is created with the help of Herbert himself and he said it was correct, it discribed the way he saw the dune universe. Kevin J Anderson simply said in one sentence. It is wrong, I'm right. On which I responded, He created the bloody universe, don't you think he might know whats right and what's not!!!!. (This BTW raised some eyebrows on my fellow students, because I was in a computer lab at the moment and talking to my computer screen.) Since then I stayed the f*ck away from books like that and I've been a lot happier since. BTW I still think Zahn is one of the better latter-day S.F writers and I can recommend both, The conquers trilogy And The Icarus hunt both are good works of fiction. Sorry about insanely long post, I hope I dind't bore you to death with things that only seem important to me. BTW the large amount of spelling/gramatical errors are a result of having just returned from an exellent party (GF just got her drivers license) and not having slept in the last 25 hours or so. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Don't knock on Death's door ... ring the bell and run. He hates that!
  12. Thx Indeed that could work. You could create a rogue squadron-ish kinda fighter group.Just dump a buch of them together save it as a single model and replace a med-transport. (can you move the med transport up the research tree?, like dump it somewhere after the Neb) This Squadron would be A. be really really though to beat B. would cost somewhere between a dauntless and a bullwark It could be used to kinda strenghten the alliance fleet. Which needs some help in the later part of the gane. They should also have a pretyy hefty upkeep cost too, rogue squadron is apperently famous, like intergalactic rockstars or something. This could explain the high cost. they'd proably demand booze, blue space bimbo's, ect. But my knowledge of rogue squadron is limited. I've never read those books, after reading a horrid story by Kevin J Anderson (that man should be hit over the head with a burning porcupine) that nearly destroyed starwars for me I steered clear of anything not written by Zahn. Besides I don't like what I've heard about most of those other strories either. It's always mega cannon this, Indestructible that or some kind of darkside empowered underwear that makes the wearer invisible and be able to destroy the uniiverse with a thought. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --Why do you always call me little grashopper, sensei? - Because you ugly, like insect!
  13. Not to mention the fact that my poor little guys are in enough trouble as it it. I wouldn't want them to be stuck in a xwing/tie cockpit for the 300 days it takes to cross the universe. Besides the chances of it unbalacing the game are too high. As you could create a fleet of cheap figthers (300 plus) and dump them on your enemy early on. It would turn our beloved reb into a rush game. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The job of the brain, the most complicated and subtle piece of engineering in the entire universe, is to generate the human mind. Which is a bit like building a space station to grow carrots in, really." - Sergei
  14. Also If you park your car on sidewalks, bike-trails and what not. The big blue pedestrian of unappines will probably stomp all over them with his big size 11 boots. This from a non car owner who frequently finds the only entrance to his house blocked by inconsiderate motorists. Especially since he has a put up a giant sign that says in big bold red letters "Do not park here!!, You will be blocking my only!!! entrance. So for the love of god please do not park here!!!!" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Give a man a fire and he's warm for a day, set that same man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life,
  15. I see no reason why this shouldn't work, you can pretty much scale down models to whatever size you want. (I've had a tactical box spanning stardestroyer I see no reason why It shouldn't work the other way.) But there are a couple of mayor problems with this idea. One. Your ships are gonna be damned hard to find, So your only gonna be able to move them in task force mode, not one at a time. Two. They are gonna move like capships which means move in a straight line, and try to fire broadside. Three. I haven't a clue how hit chances are caluclated in Rebellion, cap ships always hit other capships, so you need to make one hell of a strong fighter. So you can make autonomous fighters they're just won't actvery fighter like. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I used to be schizophrenic but we're okay now.
