  1. Didn't see the other post when I replied to you, but thanks for explaining to me how discussion threads work. Second, your reply re McCain-Feingold only proves my point. The law claims to balance speech by limiting it. And talking about vulgar or lewd expression is off point. What is being limited by McCain-Feingold is manifestly political speech, not something like a standup comic telling dirty jokes. But the law does more than seek "balanced" speech, though that in and of itself should be offensive to people who believe in the First Amendment. It outright prevents political speech. Check out the case of Wisconsin Right to Life vs. the F.E.C. The Supreme Court found that the FEC was unconstitutionally preventing the broadcast of issue ads using the BCRA (aka McCain-Feingold) as its basis. Maybe piece by piece the whole wretched law will be overturned. You can't ration political expression without abridging someone's rights. Suppose one person believes in Proposition A and 10000 people are opposed to it. The Proposition A proponent can only afford one 15 second ad on an AM radio station. Should the opponents of Proposition A also be limited to a 15 second ad to achieve "balance"? I could go on but I think we're to the point of arguing the color of the sky. You are fine with having a government agency set limits on political speech, I see that as destructive of people's fundamental rights. Wow, people who don't agree with me don't necessarily hate the US? I guess I had it all wrong! Thanks Tofu, that never occurred to me! Sarcasm aside, I'm not looking to make enemies (except for you Tofu ), and I don't equate criticism of US policies with hatred of the country. If as you say, no one here is looking for the candidate who will hurt the country the worst, then that's a good thing and I stand happily corrected.
  2. Why? Because there are people on this forum who (in my opinion) plainly dislike the United States.
  3. Are you serious? If TV ads and direct mail flyers aren't political speech, what are they? Have you noticed how the candidates make contact with the voters predominantly Tofu? It's by these same mechanisms you are classifying as spam. In fact, short of Lincoln-Douglas style debates that never happen now anyway, op-ed columns in newspapers, and walking through the borough and shaking hands, these are the only means the candidates, or more precisely the citizens who support them, have of "speaking" to the voters in the electronic age. POLE DANCING is considered protected speech in this country for God's sake! And while I'm all for pole dancers, if you could ask Madison and Jefferson which form of expression they would most want to see protected I'd guarantee you it would be the political TV ad (well, Madison anyway ). If you are concerned about the ability of challengers to defeat incumbents, then McCain-Feingold should infuriate you. Under McCain-Feingold you as a citizen can't produce an ad that criticizes the voting record of a named incumbent who is running for reelection within 60 days of the election! McCain-Feingold is a massive incumbent protection act. Why within 60 days? Because that's when people are paying more attention. If this is bad speech, why not ban it altogether? And if it wasn't effective speech, do you think the incumbents who were trying to protect their sorry hides try to restrict it at all? It's a travesty. If you really want a level playing field, take all the limits off political contributions, and simply require by law that every donation be disclosed. Let the voters decide for themselves if that Phillip-Morris contribution to Sen. Blowhard's campaign influenced his vote to increase tobacco subsidies. If you are really concerned about corruption in government, there is only one thing to do: shrink the size and power of government. If the two parties of government weren't controlling billions of dollars in government contracts and subsidies you'd see that corporations and powerful individuals took a lot less interest in trying to sway their votes. By restricting the speech of grass roots activists, McCain-Feingold attempts to extend the near monoply that large media outlets (read: corporations) have on political speech. Period. I'll make a scientific prediction. Some day someone will invent a time machine, and go back in time and find Alexander Hamilton, then teleport him to Washington D.C. in the year 2002 and introduce him to John McCain, Russ Feingold, and George W. Bush. And when Hamilton finds out about the BiPartisan Campaign Reform Act they just passed into law, he will projectile vomit all over the 3 of them. If you want to continue this in another thread, that's cool. But this one should probably be returned to the originally intended pumping and bashing of candidates. End transmission!
  4. I'm delurking to voice my equally worthless opinion. Romney suspended campaigning today, so that leaves: Hillary - but the thought of a redux of the 90's Clinton corruption completely depresses me. Face it: policy wise and by inclination this woman is practically Stalin in drag. No thanks Mrs. C. McCain - who has proven himself to be as vindictive and egotistical, not to mention as cynical and downright dishonest, as any politician in D.C. Anyone who could proudly author the kind of attack on the 1st Amendment to the US Constitution that McCain-Feingold represents, has no business holding national office. All in all McCain is unfit to be President imho. Huckabee - the Huckster. McCain light. I'm so sorry that something as cool as the Fair Tax has become associated with this tool. Again, a lying cynical d'bag of a politician. No way he gets my vote, hopefully he'll go back to Arkansas and throw another squirrel on the barbie or the fry baby or whatever it was he was cooking them with in his college days. Obama - Hillary with a human face. Jimmy Carter politically-reincarnated with a more ambitious (and destructive) shopping list of federal social programs. A naif up against Beijing, Bin Laden and Ahmadinejad (though after campaigning against the Clintons you can no longer call him a total naif). But I'll still be hoping that he wins the democrat nomination since 08 is going to be their year, and a return to Billary is more than I can stomach. Ron Paul - will ultimately get my vote now. He's probably the only guy in the race who has read and understands the Constitution and has an inkling of how the Framers intended the country to be governed. His foreign policy would be dangerous in war time, admittedly. But I can't not vote, and all of the others are a guaranteed disaster. I believe 2009 is going to see an acceleration of the US national decline that is so rapid it becomes irreversible. I'm sure if that happens it will gladen some hearts on this forum. Careful what you wish for. A bumbling, arrogant, self-absorbed but largely indifferent capitalist superpower might one day seem like a neighbor you mildly disliked, compared to what might follow.
  5. Thanks alot for the feedback guys. I'm trying to retexture some of the XWAUP models to use a single .bmp and then later convert to .x . Many of those models are quite good imo. Most are comparable in poly count to the RR models but there are a handful of pretty big ones, like 10k or more. I think I can use Lithunwrap to slowly work thru combining the textures, but reducing poly count is another story. I've downloaded GMAX, but not having a background in this stuff, it's pretty far over my head. I guess I'll stick with retexturing the small ships for now. Thanks again.
  6. I've seen different suggestions in old threads about what the upper limit should be on the number of polygons in a model. Now that the Reloaded beta is out, is there a firmer idea about what the practical limit is? I see that Home One has 5381 polys - if you take a squadron of those into battle can the Rebellion engine handle it? Thanks for any info. RR models look terrific btw. Congrats and thanks to the Reloaded team.
  7. Is there some way you can get rid of the droid agents completely? I tried substituting "blank" .bmps for them in the ~sprite and ~brief dll's, but I still see flickering images of them in game. I'm guessing there are animations somewhere that would also have to be replaced? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
  8. I guess it was really lazy for me to ask somebody else to do my game testing. I'm just working on a t/c right now and didn't want to switch gears. I also wanted a 2nd opinion on this before I put it in the downloads. I'll post it after I've tested it in game. Thanks Mad.
  9. I've taken AncientAngel's BSG-75 model from battleclinic.com and converted it to .x with his permission. I'm afraid the textures don't look nearly as good as his originals after I combined them and applied the Rebellion tactical palette. I haven't game tested it yet - don't have a good savegame that I can use. If anybody's interested in trying it, please let me know - I'd be grateful. Just give me a little time to package it as an .rmd file and create a readme. It's currently 3772 polys so hopefully it wont' drag the game down too badly. Thanks.
  10. mehh...Mask is the modeling god...I was just trying to help, not take credit for anything...sorry if it appeared otherwise...
  11. Tex- I'm no expert by any means and I haven't game tested yet. But I think I successfully swapped the Arc Hammer into the CC7700 slot using the Importer. I put a pretty detailed post on how I did it into the model importer thread in the Questions from Newbies forum. There's really no info there that's not in the Help file that Mask supplied, it's just another step by step run through. 'Course I'm going to look pretty stupid if my computer catches on fire when I launch Rebellion... hth.
  12. OK guys, I'm a noob too when it comes to replacing models. CAUTION! I haven't game tested yet. But I do see the one model I replaced when I view it via the Capital Ships menu in RebEd. Anyway, here's what I did. Essentially I think I've done exactly what The Mask says to do in his read-me. 1. I have Rebellion installed in \games\LucasArts\Star Wars Rebellion. In this folder I created a subfolder called Model Importer (i.e. \games\LucasArts\Star Wars Rebellion\Model Importer). 2. I extracted everything from the rmodimp_en.zip file into the \Model Importer folder using winzip. 3. I copied all of the objects from the folder where I have ResHack installed into the \Model Importer folder. 4. I created a subfolder in the Model Importer folder called import, i.e. \games\LucasArts\Star Wars Rebellion\Model Importer\import 5. the rmodimp.ini comes setup with location = ..\tactical.dll and saveas = ..\tactical.dll. Since my tactical.dll is at the same level as my \Model Importer folder, I didn't have to change this. But I assume you'd either change the number of dots or actually fill in the path name here if you did want to change the location of the tactical.dll that you modify. (Note - I backed up every .dll that came delivered with the game a long time ago, and it's probably best that you at least backup up your tactical.dll before doing anything). 6. it looks like the model importer only wants to handle one .rmd or one .bin file at a time. So as a test I put the .rmd file for the Arc Hammer into the \import folder. 7. I double clicked the rmodimp_win.exe file. It looks like a dos command window flashes briefly and then you get a dialog box where you can select the model by name you want to replace. I clicked on the CC7700 frigate and then clicked OK 8. Presto! An HTML file is displayed (with info about the Damorian freighter, oddly). But now in the \import folder I see the .bin and .x files for the Arc Hammer model. I was able to view the .x files with Lithunwrap. 9. I looked at the CC7700 in RebEd and I can see the Arc Hammer model there now instead (note the card is unchanged, only the model has been modified). 10. According to Mask's readme file, you need to clear out the \import folder before doing another replacement. I'm saving the .x and .bin files that are created by each model replacement to a separate folder, just in case I ever get brave enough to experiment with modeling myself! 11. I assume that import of a .bin file for a starfighter or the tactical background works the same - you just don't get the dialog box to select the file you're replacing. You have to ensure that the file in the \import folder has the correct resource name so that the importer can tell what it is you want to replace. Like I said, I haven't game tested, but I think this is going to work for how I have Rebellion installed. Sorry for the long post - hope this helps somebody! Cheers! And thank you to the Mask for all he has contributed to this site and all he has done to increase the longevity of SWR. jin_roh.
  13. Duh! I should have guessed it would be TheMask or one of the other in-house geniuses here. PM is on it's way. Thanks AdmiralToguro!
  14. AdmiralToguroAni, could I ask if this transcoder program is a shareware download or part of a package you purchased? I've wanted to get rid of IMP 22 for a long time but didn't think it was possible I Googled "transcoder", got many hits, but none look like the one you mentioned. Thanks.
  15. Keep in mind that once construction on a new facility is complete, it still has to transit from the construction yard to the destination planet before it is deployed. If I remember correctly, the transit time is the same as it would be if the facility were delivered by a ship with an 80/80 hyperdrive. If the destination planet is blockaded by your enemy before the new facility arrives, the facility is lost (destroyed)! So the closer the construction yard is to the destination planet, the better . The build option from the construction window will tell you both the construction & deployment time for building any type of facility on a given destination planet.
