  1. you may try playing without the ddraw hack that i posted. If you just force it to run in a window (-w switch in shortcut), it seems to fix the graphics problem. the ddraw hack was made for starcraft, so it's may not work in the 3d portions of the game. to be honest i usually autocalc battles. I haven't really tried that portion out yet.
  2. have you tried the steps posted here: viewtopic.php?t=27471 Also, try copying d3drm.dll and smackw32.dll from the rebellion disc to your rebellion installation directory. (C:\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\Star Wars Rebellion) Also, try running the game as administrator. Also, I just found out that if you run the game windowed in the first place, you may not need the ddraw.dll hack i posted earlier.
  3. There is another topic about this already. Rebellion runs just as well under Windows 8 as it did under windows 7. If you follow the guide follow the guides available one this site to install on windows 7, then use the ddraw.dll hack found in the other windows 8 thread, then you should be golden.
  4. This is a DirectDraw problem, similar to the problems we were having when we first got it running on Windows 7. There is a hack available that fixes everything, but you are pretty much restricted to running it in a window for now. I havent figured out how to get full screen going just yet. Check out this page: http://sol.gfxile.net/ddhack/ just extract the ddraw.dll and the ddraw.cfg into your rebellion folder, and it should run just fine. you may play with the config file to see if you get a better result, but I didn't have much luck. To make the game run in a window, just create a shortcut to the exe, and add a "-w" after the quotes. (but without the quotes, check the picture) http://darthcircuit.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/rebellionwin8.png
  5. most virtual hosts can be full screened by pressing alt-enter
  6. just in case anyone is interested, Rebellion works fine in XP mode on windows 7 pro RTM. http://darthcircuit.wordpress.com/files/2009/09/rebellion.jpg
  7. you can install windows xp sp3 using the basic same steps to set up virtual pc. the only notable changes that need to be made is: there is no need to download the windows98 floppy image or use fdisk to partition the drive. since you will be using windows xp, you will need to increase the virtual hard drive size and RAM size. id recommend about 6000 meg for the hard drive and about 256 meg for the ram. after you set up virtual pc, you just put in your windows xp cd and tell virtual pc to capture the physical drive with you xp disc. boot up your machine and install windows xp as you would normally. EDIT: Just FYI - Virtual PC offers no Direct3D or OpenGL support in virtual machines, so that means no Battlefront II. Thats why i recommended windows 98 in the first place, because it doesnt require as good of a system to run.
  8. Hey Guys! People have asked me lately how to play rebellion in Vista under Virtual PC, so i decided to make a guide. First off, you will will need Virtual PC 2007, a windows 98 Boot disk image, and Windows 98. Windows 95 will work, but you will not be able to seamlessly move the mouse from windows 98 to vista. you can get virual pc from Here you can get the windows 98 boot image from Here i have ommitted my links for Windows 98 and its key from this guide so you will have to provide your own. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and download either the 32 or 64 bit edition based on your install. after downloading virtual pc, set it up using the one screen instructions. its pretty simple. after setup completes, run it and a "new virtual machine" wizard will pop up. click next select "Create new virtual Machine" and push next name it whatever you like and press next (i called mine Windows 98) under the operating systems list, select windows 98 and press next select "use recommended ram" and press next Select "A new virtual Hard disk" and press next You can choose where to save the file for your virtual machine in this step, but id just leave it to the defaults. Before you press next, however, you can choose the size for your hard drive. you can leave it how it is if you like, but since you are only going to be playing rebellion i would make it smaller. i put mine at 2048 MB press next then finish after that finishes downloading, start virtual pc again and "Start" your virtual machine that we created in the previous step. for the hardest part of this install, you have to partition your fake drive. to do this, download the file i attached to this tutorial (boot98se.img) and start your virtual machine while booting, select "Floppy" from the top menu and select "Capture Floppy image" when it boots, select "boot without cd-rom support" it will boot and give you a DOS command line type in "fdisk" press "Y" for large disk support and press enter press "1" and enter Press "1" and Enter (Create Primary Partition) Press "y" and Enter (Maximize size and make bootable) press "Esc" Press "Action" and "Reset" on the top menu when it boots select "boot without cd-rom support" again when it finishes booting type "format C:/s" this will format the drive and copy the nessesary system files to it. Click "Floppy" on the top menu and "Release 'boot98se.img'" Click "CD" from the menu at the top and select "capture iso image" select the windows 98 iso file that you downloaded in the previous steps, you can insert your windows 98 disk and choose to mount the physical volume instead. you may have to reboot the virutal machine by going to Action menu and selecting reset. after it reboots, a menu should show up that will allow you to start Windows 98 Setup. Start it and follow the on screen instructions... if you need help with setting it up, go Here after windows finishes setup, you can release the Windows 98 CD. Click "Action" and "Install Virtual Machine Additions" once this setup completes, select, put your rebellion cd in your computer, and Select "CD" from the top menu and select "Use Physical Drive X:" (where X: is the drive with rebellion in it. Finally, you can install Rebellion inside of Windows 98 like normal hopefully sorry for the long winded install steps, but i think i got all the steps for you. this works great for me, and i hope it works for you too.
  9. I think to get it working in the way you are thinking, you need the 64 bit installer that Budious was hosting about a year ago... im not sure if it works with vista 64, and i think the link to download it no longer works.... honestly the easiest way to do it is to just download virtual pc, and setup windows 98 or something. it took me a grand total of about 30 minutes to get it running, and you dont have to configure drivers or anything... after it is set up, the space battles work fine and i havent had any real issues with it at all. im sure that since your computer already has vista it will run fine for you too... if you need any help getting it set up let me know and ill see if i can help you out...
  10. after you download the file just copy it into "C:\program files\lucasarts\Star wars Rebellion\" or where ever you happened to install it. as stated, you wont be able to skip the droid intro, and in some cases, you wont be able to see the ships in battle view. i find it much less of a pain to just run the game in virtual pc in windows 98. its got a very low footprint in most cases, and it runs fine. you dont have to worry about copying files and the like.
  11. I haven't really noticed a pattern when i play, but its probably because i run it under windows 98 in virtual pc. its been a while, but i do seem to recall the game crashing after battles sometimes when i ran it in straight vista. i am curious though. In your copy do you have troubles skipping the intro speeches or seeing ships in the combat portions of the game? mainly im curious to see if this is only a problem with the us version or if it happens to the euro version too.
  12. the easiest way i have found is to either A- Download the file specified previously, live with the droid speech at the beginning, and use autocalc on all the space battles or B- Play it on an old machine or C- Install Virtual PC 2007 on vista and run either xp or 9x inside a virtual machine. I personally use 'C'
  13. Its Looking Excellent! Its too bad that you arent using xna though, i would love to see your code and port Rebellion to my Zune now that they released the new framework. Keep up the good work!!!
