  1. I'm aware of the personnel finder and such but what that doesn't provide me with is sort of a running tab on what planet is giving me maintainence points while another may be draining it. I don't have a problem finding my troops or keeping tabs on their numbers. What I'm more concerned about is the end effect their presence has on my ability to produce more units. So I can use the galactic display controls to see that I have 3 Sullustian regiments on Sluis Van. Ok, so that's 3 maintainence points, but what about when I add the two training facilities that each take 10 maintainence points? now I'm at 23, but then I have a couple of pairs of mines and refineries there too. So in the end, what's my net gain from Sluis Van? or even the system? That's sort of what I'm accomplishing with my little spreadsheet. Granted this approach isn't for everyone but for me half of the satisfaction is knowing that I've managed to get the most use out of every planet I control. I suppose it's ironic I play the Alliance since it seems I prize order and efficiency above most everything else.
  2. I recently just started playing Rebellion again after a lull of quite a few years and I find myself constantly scribbling down what planet has this or that on it trying to figure out the net maintainence points I'm gaining or losing from one planet to another, or whether or not I've got enough mine and refinery pairs. Since I refuse to let C-3P0 and R2-D2 run my war effort I've constructed an Excel worksheet that calculates all this for me. Each planet in a system has a column and every facility, troop regiment and special forces group you have gets a row. So just tap in what you've got where and it will tell you how much you're making or losing from a planet and the system in total. I didn't put anything in for ships or starfighters since they tend to move around and not sit at any one planet for very long. I might try adding that later. So, I guess my main question is, are there any other Alliance players out there that would make use of this?
  3. I tend to play my strategy games that way. I just don't feel right leaving myself open for attack. I like to take a clean slate and build up what I feel is sort of a nice little base and supply chain. Whenever I try to launch into a massive shipbuilding project from the get go I wind up with resource and maintainence deficits. So I sort of try to get myself to a point where I can just go hog wild with my ships and army building. It's a nice feeling when you can crush all attempts that are made by the AI to deal damage to you, and then turn around and smash them.
  4. In any game where I have the option to pick my Civil War Era starfighter I will always take the A-wing. I've ridden with it since ther first X-wing game. I'm a sucker for the quick little fighter with no real shielding, unimpressive weaponry all for the sake of being the fastest little blip out there.
  5. I recently found my old copy of Rebellion and loaded it up immediately, having forgotten just how much I both love and hate this game. I love the aspect of a truly galactic experience. But I hate that it turns me into a human calculator. I can't ever bring myself to be anything but the Alliance, it's just a problem I have with all Star Wars games. I always have to be on the lightside etc... My problem is that I hate trying to take or even hold onto the core and inner rim worlds. Their resources are nearly entirely tapped already, and I'm the sort who likes a clean slate. I like to come into a system, count up it's Resource and Energy points and find a way to squeeze about 1000 Maintainence points out of it. I build one planet with about 6 advanced Construction yards, another with 8 advanced shipyards and another with 3 advanced training facilities. I then set about constructing a defensive fleet: 1 Mon Cal 4 Neb Bs 1 Escort Carrier 4 Corellian Corvettes/Gunship (I upgrade when it becomes available) 8 X-wings, 3 B-wings and 4 A-wings For a grand total of about 400 Maintanence points. I then make sure that every world in that system has a GenCore and at least 4 Sullustian regiments. Whatever energy or resources left over is divided up into mines and refineries. Any extra maintainence points left over I put towards building an attack fleet. The trick is I never really seem to get around to the attacking part. As I'm usually beset by multiple imperial fleets by the time I've got my resource base built up. So, what do I need to do differently?
