  1. I'll use Bulk Cruisers in my fleet if I start with one or two, but I never build them. By the time I build up my initial fighters and Corvettes/Carriers, the Neb-B is available which is far superior to the Bulk in every way. I rarely have big shipyards to build lots of capital ships before the Neb-B is researched, so I go fighters over capitals early on if I need to make a choice. I never build Dreadnoughts either, for the same reason (Neb-Bs are more flexible). For Strike Cruisers, I never build them in vanilla. Using RebEd, I make the Strike Cruisers more comparable to the Neb-B capabilities (turbolasers and ion cannon, no lasers), so that the Empire has a decent mid-level capital ship escort. 3-4 modified Strikes for every ImpStar Deuce and 2-3 Lancers, and that fleet is good to go!
  2. I always buy X-wings when playing rebels; they are slower than A-wings, but have proton torpedoes which help against capital ships. I believe the AI always buys A-wings (and TIE Defenders for the Empire) because they are the "highest" fighter in the inventory (per the research level); the AI is biased toward those ships that come up later. B-wings are bad against fighters, so the AI won't buy them to fight fighters. If I'm buying dedicated bombers for the Rebels, I like B-wings over Y-wings; they pack a bigger wallop than Y-wings (when unmodded...).
  3. What are the odds that the Democrats in Congress are purposefully doing this at this specific time, for the express purpose of p***ing off an Iraq War ally, in order to make that ally refuse to help the USA to wage that war that they (Democratic-controlled Congress) don't support anyway? With all the options available to Congress to end this conflict if they would choose to exercise them, this is not the most effective method IMHO. Not only because it's inefficient, but it has the side effect of lowering our standing in world affairs yet again by muddling in the affairs of a sovereign nation that didn't ask for it. Is the USA ready for Turkey to turn around and condemn some rather sordid parts of its own past? Is this an efficient use of either government's time and effort? It's sure an efficient use of the Armenian-American lobby concerns! There have been many, many travesties of justice in human history, committed by nearly every society that has ever existed. If Congress insists on condemning every single one, when will they have time to actually govern? (On second thought, maybe that's not such a bad idea, since they screw up most everything they do anyway...) Learn from history, don't repeat the sins and mistakes, move on and let it go. Look toward the future and prevent more atrocities from happening now, and don't dwell on the past, I say.
  4. While you're in the game, right-click on a ship or fighter and check the "Status" page for the Bombardment value (all all other values for that matter). For study material, you can check out Sashanan's Rebel and Imperial Ship Guides at http://www.gamefaqs.com. Inside are all the stats and write-ups for all the ships. If it's not there, just do a web search for Rebellion and browse (that's how I found the guides in the first place).
  5. I live in Chicagoland, in the Midwest. While we have a choice of paper or plastic, I almost always use plastic. The handles make it easier to carry multiple bags in one hand, I'm not usually buying enough at one time to fill a paper sack, and the stores tend to hide the paper (except for one chain in the far suburbs which offers paper unless you ask for plastic). I tend to reuse the plastic bags as trash bags for my smaller (i.e. bathroom) trash cans, and for any other application which calls for a clean and disposable liner-bag (wet clothes, muddy shoes, etc.). I never thought about the stereotype of the paper sack to tote groceries on TV, but that's certainly how things were done when I was growing up in the 70's and 80's. I guess the (general) need to carry the paper bags by the bottom (and thus closer to the head) sells the point "I just went shopping" a little better on the screen...anyone else agree?
  6. Hey, I can help you out; I have that game! It is called "Star Wars The Interactive Video Board Game", my box is copyright 1996. It followed a wave of popularity several years ago, where you play the game according to cues from a constantly-running VHS tape (or DVD in some cases, but this game is VHS). I only played it once, kinda cool two-tier game board, it's a race against the clock for someone to win, if no one wins by the time the tape runs out, then everyone loses (go figure...). Lots of Star Wars scenes throughout the hour-long tape, and since Darth Vader is the one calling the shots on the videotape, they got James Earl Jones to do lots of new material in character. For what it's worth, "Queen's Gambit" by Avalon Games is my favorite Star Wars board game (based on Episode I, but I don't hold that against it...), followed very closely by the original Escape The Death Star from the late 70's (still very cool to play even today!).
  7. I'm sure all our patience will pay off with a neat gaming experience! Congratulations on sticking with this project all these months and years. Thanks VERY much!
  8. 1) Basically, what's the deal with all the prequels? Midichlorians (one single symbiote is compatible with nearly every species in the galaxy)??? The Geonosians designing the Death Star??? Jar Jar Binks??? The rest of the Gungans were just fine, but oh this idiot...Does anyone have a copy of The Phantom Edit I can watch? Please? 2)George Lucas has stated that he wanted the Star Wars films to be like silent films, and he directs, casts, and edits accordingly. That's all fine and dandy for the good-guys-win finale in ROTJ, but the prequels could have been much more interesting films with a more modern cinematic approach. The prequels are noobed down way too much for those of us who grew up with the originals. And this directing style makes a group of fine actors look incompetent on screen. I happen to like the wipes for screen transistions, though! 3)There's nothing wrong with Ewoks per se, but considering the original plot to have the final battle on Kashyyyk with Wookiees (Ewoks are Wookiees spelled backwards; really original there George...), using the smaller species is such a letdown. And by the time the Wookiee battle arrives in ROTS, it's hopelessly unrealistic (a single frontal charge on one beach???) and does not depict the planet the way every other source has led us to believe over the years. Even the Holiday Special did a better job of showing the tree-based society of Kashyyyk! 4)Original Triology Special Edition. The only thing I like is the Jabba scene put back in Star Wars. Why did they change the dialog (Luke in the Dagobah swamp, and Han on the skiff over the Sarlaac)? I had been dreaming of the Star Wars Death Star battle with updated special effects for years, but even those wonderful visuals cannot make up for GREEDO SHOOTING FIRST! I wonder if the boys at Lucasfilm are even remotely aware of how nonsensical this is, or how modifying that scene completely changes our perception of Han's character development throughout the film. They might as well have used walkie-talkies instead of blaster pistols...wait, that's been done... 5)When Star Wars first became a hit, Lucas explained that sets and creatures and special effects were part of the story, not the story itself, and that many unsuccessful sci-fi films spend too much time focusing on the expensive sets and technology rather than focusing on telling a great story. Mr. Lucas, may I direct your attention to Episodes I-III... Whew! Thanks for letting me get this off my chest. In spite of all this, Star Wars is still a great experience and I'm glad I'm a fan. George Lucas had the courage to push for his vision to get on screen, and he deserves all the credit without a doubt. It must be tough to live up to expectations of fans like me. But, that doesn't stop me from wishing Stackpole would write a screenplay for an X-Wing movie...
  9. Hello, OldFan here, I've been reading and using this site for a year or so but finally got around to registering and posting. I enjoy the fun off-topics, and really appreciate all the work that has gone into analyzing how the game works and how to modify it given the limited information that we have on the game. That Golan III is much better than the CC-9600! As I said in the "explain your name" topic, I've been around since Star Wars first came out in the theaters all those years ago, and I've never stopped enjoying the galaxy far, far away! Plus, reading about college exams in the forums makes me feel old... Fun facts: I live in Chicagoland, IL, USA; I have darn near every 3 3/4" SW action figure ever produced and still going; I pick up every new SW book as soon as it comes out in paperback; I think the original trilogy is soooo much better than the (unfortunately) noobed-down prequels; I love music and my iPod and I might get around to posting on that "soundtrack of your life" topic on of these years. I'm very happy that I snagged a copy of Rebellion a couple of years ago, it is maddeningly addictive but so much fun.
  10. This would be the dream game, wouldn't it? All the options and lack of movement/units limitations from Rebellion, plus the more detailed planet characteristics and battle management from EAW. LucasArts, are you listening? Let's have the ultimate Star Wars galactic strategy game!
  11. I've been a Star Wars fan since 1977...plus, all the seasonal talk about exams and schoolwork and such on this site makes me feel old!
  12. Hey everybody, first-time poster, long-time reader and visitor here. I saw the Holiday Special live on TV when I was a kid (I had to keep sneaking out of the bedroom to watch, since the parents wouldn't let me stay up that late!). Of course, when I was 8 or 9 I thought it was cool to see Stormtroopers on TV (in the days before TV rebroadcasts or my family getting a VCR...). I found a copy at a card show several years back that someone had recorded, so I have the whole thing on tape. I must say, the best parts of the show were 1) the Boba Fett cartoon, and 2) the advertisement for action figures and playsets. The Harvey Korman "Julia Child" impersonation is amusing, and Art Carney does some nice work. Otherwise, the only redeeming value is to give you the names of Chewbacca's family (reprised in the Black Fleet Crisis books and elsewhere). Trust me everybody, you're not missing much! That being said, my copy is NOT for sale! I love playing Rebellion, and can't wait for the Reloaded TC. Keep going guys!
